I have been looking for a simple, black matte fan for a while that doesn't look outdated or bulky. I impulse bought this fan one night and was pleasantly surprised. Instalation was pretty standard. I used the flush mount directions. Personally feel like the marble side of the fan blades look cheap however the solid side looks great, nice idea to give options. Fan looks great up, and doesn't wobble at all!! Before I had it fully set up I thought it was going to because I could wiggle the base no matter how tight I drilled the screws. The light is also more powerful than expected after reading reviews. Works well for a bedroom at least. The only reason I'm giving this fan 4 out of 5 starts is the airflow is not as powerful as I expected. However it's just enough to give a nice breeze. If you want a very strong wind this is not the fan for you. I will definitely consider buying 2 more for the other bedrooms when the time comes. ***4 YEAR UPDATE:*** Updating my review from 4 to 5 starts. I freaking love this fan. Almost 4 years ago I bought this fan for my master bedroom, no issues at all. At the time of my first purchase I don't believe there was a LED light/fan option, so I had the regular version. This time around the LED one was the only matte black one in stock. I'm ready to update my two guest rooms with matching fans, so I go for the LED this time. As I was just about to purchase 2 of these I see a similar unbranded ceiling fan that looks EXACTLY the same on Amazon for $30 cheaper... I tend to go for the deals, so I almost bought two of those instead, but strange enough that seller only allows one purchase per customer (seriously never have seen that before), so I see this as an opportunity to compare the "new" LED Westinghouse fan to this matching unbranded fan. While the quality of the products were slightly different, they definitely still felt similar pre install, plus they had the same installation process. However, after installation I felt the Westinghouse fan was the quality product and far worth the $30 price difference. When you pull on the chain to the unbranded fan, the housing with the lights wobbles a little, it doesn't feel quite as sturdy as the Westinghouse one. Also, the Westinghouse house fan in SO QUIET. The unbranded fan had a slight hum from the motor that I personally can't stand. The more I listen to the two I want to return the unbranded one so bad, but that sounds like such a hassle to uninstall and return. Learn from my lesson! As for the LED light, yes it is bright! Brighter than the regular bulbs for the first Westinghouse fan. But it seems like the perfect brightness for a bedroom in my opinion. It's also not overly yellow or white. It's just a perfect medium. I'm actually moving into a new house in 5 months and 100% will be buying 3 more of these for my new place as well. ... show more

I selected the fan based upon a review I’d read in wirecutter.com that I found to contain very practical and thoughtful advice. With the hundreds of fans out there from which to choose, if ultimately you just want a fan that looks good, is reasonably priced (especially when you consider that it comes with a light), easy to install, does its work efficiently and quietly, this one is for you. I purchased two of these fans for a couple of sun-drenched rooms and they are everything I’d hoped. Although I’ve installed many ceiling fans over the years, I was initially a little confused by a couple of things: how to screw the fan blades on because the light component blocked access to the screw holes (which, if I’d read the simple instructions more closely, showed how to access the screw holes through an opening in the light component) and how to stuff the six feet of wiring into the fan/ceiling opening after I connected it to the power source. After squeezing the wire bundle in with the first fan, I took a leap of faith with the second fan and just cut five feet of the wires off which left me with more than enough length to connect them to the house wiring and no need to deal with all the excess. In sum, the fans (and lights) came with all the parts necessary to install them, were not hard to install, and work great. They will be my go-to fans in the future if I ever need to buy more. ... show more

I purchased this because Consumer Reports rated it highly. It's supposed to be very quiet and energy efficient. The latter is not my top concern, so I'm not going to test for that. It is *somewhat* quiet, but if I want to do audio recordings in this room I would still need to turn the fan completely off. I would have preferred it with bronze/brass hardware and a nice medium brown wood grain, but the high tech black look does complement my computer/monitors tech look. A few minor negs: 1) REALLY disappointed that the light does not have multiple dimmer options. It's just on/off, and on is pretty bright. 2) Installation instructions are embarrassingly lacking. Several things I had to figure out. For example, you may want to mount the blades BEFORE you try mounting the fan because it's a real shenanigan. The top of the light fixture comes pre-installed on the motor. It would have been easier to mount the fan blades if that were not in the way. It has a slot that leaves enough space to get at one fan blade's pair of mounting screws. They are not provided separately, and that is not detailed in the instructions. It just says to use the screws and lock washers "provided". You have to remove them from the motor housing (once you have figured out which ones they are). There are other things that could have been explained much more clearly that would have made the entire process a lot easier and faster. 3) Good quality fans are designed so that when you hang it on the bracket hook in order to wire it, you should be able to just swing it up onto the mounting bracket. My previous (Hunter brand) fan did that. This one did not. You had to unhook it in order to mount it to the bracket. 4) SHIPPING NOTE: They just slapped labels on the fan box, but that box is pretty flimsy cardboard not at all designed to endure getting banged around in shipping. When it arrived, corners were torn and it looked pretty battered. Inside, the Styrofoam packing had broken up a bit. However, as luck would have it none of the fan parts appeared to be damaged. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH SMARTER to pack this thing inside a sturdier cardboard box before shipping. POSITIVE DESIGN NOTE: the large disc-shaped screws that hold the glass on over the light fixture seem pretty well designed, with some protective padding between the plastic of the screw heads and the glass. ... show more
