About Speedo In 1914, Speedo was founded in Australia by Alexander MacRae, a 22-year-old Scottish immigrant who arrived in the country in 1910. The company began when MacRae Hosiery manufacturers, established by Alexander in 1914, extended the manufacture of underwear to swimwear and became MacRae Knitting Mills. A naming competition was held by the staff in 1928 and won by a Captain Parsonson, who coined the slogan, "Speed on in your Speedos." In 1929, the first swimsuits were in production and it didn’t take long for Speedo to successfully establish itself. World War II caused the brand turn over 90% of it’s manufacturing to war production, providing the armed services with vital equipment such as mosquito nets. After the war, Speedo opened a new factory and was able to re-establish itself, due to increased demand for swimsuits. In 1951, Speedo Knitting Mills (Holdings) Ltd, was incorporated and became a publicly traded company on the Sydney Stock exchange. Speedo hit the international stage in earnest, at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, and a few years later the brand grew on a more global scale. Export sales to the USA began and an international division was set up to monitor trade in New Zealand, Japan and South Africa. The expansion of the brand continued, and in 1976, Speedo was appointed as the official swimwear for the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where 52 out of 54 countries wore their swimsuits. Speedo continues to make its mark in the pool and on the beach today. Many world class athletes who wear Speedo include U.S. phenomenon Michael Phelps, legendary Australian swimmer Grant Hackett, world record holder Kosuke Kitajima from Japan, and Holland’s Inge de Bruijn. What's in the Box? • Very good product, just watch size choice See picture for updated review..
Size: Medium Color: Charcoal/Red
Like so many others that have reviewed these gloves, watch the size you buy. I bought the large thinking because I use large garden gloves, I should get that size for swimming. Wrong. The large were too big. They swell up when wet and are uncomfortable to wear. Returned them but forfeited my “no shipping” cost. It was worth the exchanged, though. The large pair were not working at all. The medium are much better and I love them. Great product. Well made. Update on this product. After 3 months of wearing the swim gloves, the right hand glove has fabric in damaged condition. I have faithfully been rinsing these gloves after every swim (I swim 5 times a week) since July 2018. It seems as if the fabric has dissolved or disintegrated on the right glove. Always let gloves naturally dry. Never used any heat on them. Seems like they should have lasted longer. I thought Speedo made a quality product. Guess I was wrong. Will be looking for a better replacement. Down to one star for poor longevity. ... show more

  • I also find these gloves very useful. Additionally
The five stars are for probable durability. I also find these gloves very useful. Additionally, my return was handled extremely efficiently. Fit/size: I can see 4 potential issues with getting the correct size in these gloves. How wide is your palm (most important). How thick is your wrist (somewhat important). How long are your fingers (mostly unimportant). How thick are your fingers (mostly unimportant). This following size chart (from the Speedo site) addresses palm width: AQUATIC FITNESS GLOVES SIZE CHART S M L XL 8.0cm 8.5cm 9.0-9.5cm 10.0-10.5cm Note: Width: Measure horizontally across the palm. (Although my palm is about 9.5cm across, squarely in the Large category, this size would have been to large for me.) This criteria for fit is the most important. If the gloves are too large in the palm, they will feel loose on the hand. I purchased two pairs of Speedo swim training gloves, one XL and one M, for my wife and I. I returned the XL, partly because they were too big and loose on the body of my hand. I now use the medium size purchased for my wife. This pair is also a bit loose. This becomes especially evident when swimming. I think the wet material tends to stretch, fill with water, and they feel like they balloon out a bit. I have fairly small wrists. For the fit, this somewhat/slightly important. I think the size of the wrist opening and the position of the velcro closure is related to the glove/palm size; i.e. XL has a larger wrist opening than the Small size. Not only do my Medium sized gloves seem a bit too large on the palm, I feel like, in order to keep the glove on my hand, I should adjust the velcro closure to the minimum aperture size. (two downsides to this adjustment: the velcro makes limited contact and the excess strap flops around on every stroke). Length of fingers: I have not found it useful to make a size comparison to other kinds of gloves. I have what I think of as large to very large hands (at maximum spread, tip of thumb to tip of little finger = 23.5cm). It is difficult for me to find work gloves that fit. I have (literally) tried on many hundreds of pairs of work gloves. When gloves do fit, they are almost always XXL size, and even those are often too small. I own about 10+ pairs of winter gloves, all XL and XXL. Perhaps the difficulty is long fingers? (middler finger, right hand = 9cm). While fit is critical for me with gloves with fingers, it is not an issue with with the Speedo fingerless swim gloves. Whether my fingers protrude from the gloves .5", or 1.5", does not seem to substantially affect either comfort or function. Size of the finger holes: the finger holes on these medium gloves are also a bit too large for me. This seem to affect the way the gloves function: a strong forward stroke seems to push back the material around the edge of the finger, creating resistance. Also: water seems to enter the glove around the fingers, creating more resistance. However, I do not find this a problem. I have to work harder against the resistance, and that is why I am using the gloves. Durability: I have used these about 10 times while swimming and snorkeling in both ocean, and pool. I have not noticed any wear issues. Note: These gloves may not help you swim faster. I have noticed, especially when snorkeling, that the greater surface area these gloves provide does seem to give me more power, at least for a few hard strokes. When swimming laps, the greater resistance makes me work harder (which is good, right?), but it does not increase my overall speed. Indeed, my time for ten laps increases. When I remove the gloves, however, it feels like I can fly through the water. (neighboring swimmers have assured me that this was not the case). ... show more

  • Wonderful for your Aquatic Workouts!
I did not expect to enjoy using these Swim Gloves as much as I do. I'm a 71-year-old "Lap" Swimmer & find swimming to be an excellent overall workout for me. I decided to try these to improve my upper body strength & water resistance conditioning. They are terrific & give me all the resistance needed. They're very comfortable to wear, well made & I've already noticed a difference in conditioning since I started using them. I previously tried the "Agility Hand Paddles" & hated them, as they were uncomfortable to use & did not allow me the smooth stroke I was looking for. These Speedo Aqua Fit Training gloves are perfect for me!!! ... show more

  • Must Be Seconds or knock off Warning.
Size: Medium Color: Charcoal/Red
I own two prior pair of these, both medium size. These are sewn differently and there is so much room in the palm and excess fabric that they wear like a balloon. I cannot use them. I will have to go to a brick and mortar store and really see them. The other two pair were bought an earlier time on Amazon, but be forewarned. These may not be what you bought the last time. Maybe mine made it through quality control. I see some other non-speedo brands that look similar to the sewing on mine. Oversized medium now. This might be handy for a big person doing water aerobics, but I have no way to know what has happened to the prior fit. I "would" use mine to swim laps. I threw the packaging away I was so confident and did not notice until later, when I matched up the gloves. :-( Buy these at a store you can visit. Sorry. ... show more

  • Didn’t last, faded, tore.
Size: Large Color: Royal
I loved this product until the cloth began to a split and expose the index finger. Also splitting at the seams between fingers. Faded fairly quickly too. They were used 3-5 times per week and rinsed after every swim in cool water.

  • work well, but be careful of shoulder injuries
These are great for " resistance" ; slowly building muscle tissue .......... do be careful though as they can cause undue shoulder stress / possible shoulder injury what I do is use them for 1/2 of my workout , then remove so I can get more speed / better cardio also they take a long time to dry .....but nonetheless ... make sure you rinse them after each use ... show more
