I’ve been using this powder for years. Flavor, granule size, and packaging has been consistently excellent. Flavors I have tried are: French vanilla, Gourmet Chocolate, and Double Chocolate. It is hard to describe the difference in flavor between the two chocolates, think of it like the difference in cocoa % of chocolate bars. As a post-workout or post-cycling recovery drink, I use 2 scoops of this + 1 tbsp virgin coconut oil (trust me, it adds great texture) + milk. When using the French vanilla kind, I use the above recipe + 1 cup frozen blueberries and mix it in a blender. It really hits the spot after a day in the sun in the saddle. No weird after taste, their Stevia amount is just right to give you sweet but not overly sweet. Most other products I’ve used that have Stevia have a gross after taste, not any Designer Whey products I have used though. Highly recommend this product. First: the brown discoloration around the inside of the seal is totally normal. I called Designer Proteins customer service # (located on the containers if you ever need them) and the woman explained that they use heat during the sealing process and some of the powder caramelizes. It is not mold, it is normal. Second: The 4 tiny holes punctured in the seal are meant to be there. Customer service said they do that with the larger containers to help with air flow during transport. Otherwise the container can build up pressure. Again, normal. I’ve tried french vanilla and gourmet chocolate. I like the chocolate better, it just seems to have less of an artificial flavor. But the vanilla is very tolerable. -Unbeatable price at $34 for the 4 pound tub - We are talking $0.57 PER SERVING! Seriously that price is unrivaled. And we are not talking some basic protein powder here. This is a sophisticated blend of pretty rad nutrients for an incredible price. -hipster, health-conscious company that included probiotics AND cool sugar substitutes like Monk Fruit Extract as opposed to Aspartame -for only having 2 grams of sugar, it actually tastes pretty good (don't be a snob - you're getting fit, not enjoying a milkshake from Farrell's -mixes easily - I've been drinking this for a good 6 months and haven't experienced any slimy chunks of protein yet! -mild on digestive system - dairy products sometimes upset my stomach, but this hasn't yet (perhaps due to the probiotics? I used to drink Designer Whey (with other ingredients mixed in using a blender) 1-2 times per day for the past 8 years. I will no longer buy this product because they changed their recipe. It is now the most horrible tasting, chalky stuff I’ve ever had. I used to be able to neutralize the vanilla flavor when I added a banana or other fruit and veggies. That’s not the case anymore. Designer Whey says “satisfaction guaranteed” on their packaging but when I called them, they offered nothing other than “we changed suppliers for some of our ingredients” and that I should use a blender (which I already do). My wife and I came to a compromise on this protein. She liked the all natural ingredients and I liked that she liked it (you know how it goes). Turns out, it was hardly a compromise at all as we have both seen health benefits and have seen physical results. Which has lead to other benefits, if ya know what I mean... I know what you’re thinking. “It doesn’t even have flashy labeling or a huge body builder gnawing on a piece of raw steak... no one gets gainz on all natural protein.” But trust me on this. My son has Celiac Disease and gluten products make him severely ill. There is a certified gluten free label on this product and it contains gluten. After we finally figured out it was the protein powder that was making him ill and not Covid. He lost 15lbs. and will take him 6-8 months to heal after injesting this falsified product. We investigated the protein package and noticed several differences on the labels that what we had ordered. I have eaten this product almost every morning for years and it was wonderful. I always mix it with skim milk. But, the latest order I received was a changed product. In the picture I added, above, see upper left of can, "NEW MORE Chocolatey Taste". It used to say "convenient flip-top" or something similar to that. I knew something was off when I opened it. Brown dust floated up. The product is a fine powder now. After mixing, it tastes and has the consistency of chocolate milk. Instead of having energy, this made me tired. After a few hours, I felt weak like I had eaten sweets instead of protein for breakfast. I hope they change this back to the way it was, or, make it possible to order the old version. ... show more

I'm surprised by the reviews on here that describe this chocolate flavor as being disgusting. It's a protein powder, so as long as you don't expect it to taste like Ghirardelli, then I think you will be happy with the taste. It's not chalky, it goes well with 1% milk and it definitely keeps me full for most of the morning. This is an excellent protein drink (and flavor!) to stick by. ... show more
