  • Compact and easy to maneuver
Style: WGen5300DF
Have had this for a couple years now, but just now unboxed it. Setup was a breeze. Was packed nicely for shipping. Received in perfect condition. Comes with oil and a nice fitting plastic oil filler tool. Have yet to run it. Will update once I do.

  • Decent initial impression
Style: WGen5300DF
I plan to use this primarily with a transfer switch as backup power. Waiting on a response from my electrician if I need to remove the neutral bonded ground jumper with my switch. I fueled it up with gas and it started fairly quickly. The choke is kind of awkward, not as easily accessible as most I've used and it is not an obvious lever one is used to, it's a couple of vertical sheet metal tab that are a bit hard to access with gloves on. Took a few seconds to figure it out but maybe that's just me. The handle is a bit short, I clipped my heels a couple of times hauling it to where I'm going to use it. I assume it can't be much longer and fit in the box form factor. My previous generator had a longer handle at the expense of storage space. This one is more compact and will take up less storage space when not in use which is most of the time. It started with the remote FOB first try without having to pair it. Still need to checkout the propane operation. I did have one shipping damage issue, the alternator cover was dented on arrival. I didn't see any outside damage on the box so it looks like there was pressure on the box and one of the unassembled wheels was forced into the cover hard enough to deform it. I took the cover off and found no damage underneath so I'm just going to send a picture to Westinghouse and see if they want to send out a replacement cover. I certainly didn't want to have to go through the hassle of a full return for largely cosmetic damage. I'll try to update this review if I have any operational problems. ... show more

  • So far, so good.
Style: WGen5300DF
The battery charger for the Wgen5300DF was not included in the original shipping, though the Westinghouse Customer Service representative was very helpful and had it shipped to me within a week of receiving the generator. NOTE that the battery charger supplied with this unit is nothing more than a 12vdc 2amp power supply, so close attention should be given to page 27 "Using the battery charger" section of the user manual lest the battery be damaged by over charging. With all inventoried items in hand I followed the well written "Quick Start Guide" in a step wise fashion. My plan is to run this generator exclusively on LP so after making, double checking and leak testing all connections and I then used the panel mounted "start/stop" button to start then generator which "caught", and began running smoothly on the second cycle of it's power up sequence. NOTE at this time I have not tested the pull start, or remote start function. Per the "Breaking the engine" section on page 20 of the user manual, the Wgen5300DF was allowed to run for a period of 90 minutes. A less than 50% (approx 2000 watts of rated 4900 watts on LP) load was then slowly applied using a combination of halogen shop lighting, small blower fans and a large barn ventilation fan to simulate capacitive starter loading. No refrigeration compressor was available for this test so operational testing with this loading was not performed. I experienced no problems running the genset under these conditions for approximately 2 hours. Under these circumstances of initial testing I am pleased to provide an "above average" review for similar products in this price and utilization cohort. ... show more

  • I Love My New Generator
Style: WGen5300DF
I live in an area with constant power outages, with the most recent persisting for 5 days. Everything in my refrigerator and freezer was wasted. I didn't want that to happen again, so I finally bit the bullet and bought a generator. I have been very pleased with this generator and the power output. I am in the process of building a permanent storage box outside next to the home to prepare for the future outage. In time I will get this connected to my main line and have it power on immediately in the event of an outage. I will update this review when I do, however, for now it is running off of gasoline (recommended to use non-ethanol) with a propane tank nearby for backup. Both gasoline and propane worked flawlessly. Setting up the generator was pretty easy, just be weary that this thing is beastly and will require some brute strength to turn over and put the legs/wheels on. After I had the gasoline and oil (recommended to use full synthetic) it was ready to roll. The remote and electric push start worked perfectly, but it did take a few cycles to get the fuel through the line and finally turn the engine over. Once it did, flawless! So happy and relieved that I have power backup should I have another multi-day event. I'll update once again after an event to see how this thing performs in the thick of it. ... show more

  • Easy to operator
Style: WGen5300DF
I like the fact that generator started 2th time out of box. It was very easy to assemble wheels. The remote control starter is a plus. The noise level was not bad. They give you a few tools for spark plug, oil drain plug, wheels. Good for someone who doesn`t have any tools. They give you a qt. of oil and oil funnel to add to generator. The reason I couldn`t give This review 5 Stars is because the Engineers who design this generator never took in consideration how often the oil would be change. You Can Not change oil without making a mess The generator brace bar is right in the way of where oil drain pan should go. You cann`t put a oil pan drain valve in because it just hits the motor mount. After all this I WOULD BUY THIS GENERATOR AGAIN. ... show more
