    • A wealder that does its job.
DuroStar made a great portable welder/generator. When I first got it, it was delivered by FEDEX on a pallet. It requires that "some assembly required" type deals where you put things like, Wheels, handles, support legs, and air in the tires. But not only that, the battery you see on the picture here, DuroStar did not supply a ground wire to make a connection for the ignition start. So I had to make one. Note: Make sure that some of the coating on the frame is bare for the ground wire to work, there is a small hole to bolt it to it. The generator also comes with two plug-ends for the welder, one positive, one negative, but DuroStar did not supply the line feed or the clamps either. So I had to go to my near-by hardware store and buy 20 ft of line and two claps for it. Note: The clerk will ask you what size the line is, tell him its a size two. So just when you think that I'm done, the company gave me metric round-over nuts that didn't go all the way in cause the threads where to long for it. *Sigh* So once again I'm off to the store to get two regular metric bolts with two lock-washers. I'm done right? No, before I started it, I looked through the manual and it said that you must get SAE 10W-30 oil with SJ stamped on the back of it, and it must be exactly that kind of oil too. We're off to see the store, the wonderful store of hardware. So finally, it's done. Now I got it started and it runs like a dream. I love it, but man... make a list once you get it. Items to buy once you get it. 20 ft. of size two line. Two claps, one positive, one negative. Two metric nuts with lock-washers. One ground wire. One qt. of SAE 10W-30 SJ One last thing, the Voltage gauge is vague on what voltage you're on. To be fair, I'd tried to cancel the order but they said it was to late, and I'm glade it was, cause I love it, and I'm learning all that I can, cause I'm trying to do this for a living. ... show more

I love this welder/generator. The bad (it's not perfect, some things need to be changed) Change out those tires! The tires are rather poor, loose air quick (can't support the weight of the generator with fuel in it) and broke. Luckily Tractor Supply had a pair of solid tires which fit and were on sale for $20 for the pair. DC gauge is more or less go by feel when you weld. The Good! Starts great! There's a choke on the side to start it when it's cold. Electric start is a big plus. The generator runs for a very long time on a tank of gas, this is great if you are welding fence pipe in a field. I can load it into an ATV trailer (takes 2 people). My Hobart leads hook up no problem. Circuit breaker switch to switch over to AC power. Fuel gauge tells you how full your tank is. Over all for the price it is a great value. Welder is able to penetrate pretty deep with 6010 sticks. Change those tires and you solve half the problems right there. ... show more

The DuroStar came in a good box with no damage, it had everything in it but oil and leads. Hook up battery, fill with oil and gas and it started up. Order welding leads from amazon, installed end that came with the welder on the new leads and burned two rods with it seems to work good. Very happy with it and for what it will be used for... ... show more

I received it and it had no owners manual, no key for the electric start, and nothing on the control panel worked. No generator and no welder. I called customer service and they wanted me to put new brushes in the motor, they wanted to send them to me. I was firm with them on sending it back and getting full refund. Spend a little more get a Lincoln or Hobart that you can rely on. This is nothing but cheap junk. You get what you pay for..........I learned! ... show more

I'm a welder. Bought this for a general home use extra. Does not weld very good. Great generator. But would not recommend as a welder.

    • customer service DON'T BOTHER THEY ARE A JOKE
ON AMAZONS END DELIVERED AS PROMISED---- THIS UNIT DOES NOT COME WITH OIL OK NO PROBLEM. I BOUGHT THE OIL AND GUESS WHAT THE DIPSTICK IS AGAINST THE BATTERY YOU NEED A PAIR OF PLIERS TO GET IT OUT NOW IT WONT SCREW BACK IN STRAIGHT UNLESS YOU REMOVE THE BATTERY!!!! SO I TRIED TO CONTACT DUROSTAR 5 TIMES LEFT 3 MESSAGES & WAS HUNG UP ON 2 TIMES WELL HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO GET AROUND THIS??????? DUROSTAR ... show more

    • GOOD WELDER
We like the welder very much. It starts instantly, welds a good bead with 1/8" 6011 rod when set at between 2/3 & 3/4 on dial. You don't need the amps to be shown like I thought you did. The bad: One of the no flat tires keeps going down. The bolt to connect the battery ground was missing.
