5 years of what i am sure is "gentle use" and it's shot. I'm a single guy who wants to weigh a portion of food once or twice a week. It worked fine for a few years, but now it's near impossible to get it to turn on, and when on, almost as difficult to get it to change from grams to ounces to kilos to pounds. It is virtually unusable. At the purchase price of $25 it cost me $5 year. I guess that doesn't seem like much until I look around my house and see two dozen things that fail at this same type of rate and realize I am spending many hundreds of dollars a year on cheap, disposable plastic. ... show more

Great kitchen scale. Liked it so much this is my second. I purchased the white/chrome both times. I like that I can put my own bowl on it and then tare the scale without having to turn the unit off between weighing. The display is easy to read and visible even with a plate on the platform. A separate button to change units is an excellent feature as I can change units without removing the item being weighed. I calibrated it using some items of known weight and found it to be accurate for home use. Generally right on, even agreed with the postal service. (Worst case, about 0.2% difference, less than ¼%, but I think the food item weighed as a test could have been short.) As I’ve already said, this is my second. I bought one over 5 years ago, and it finally went. It got dropped, wet, etc., so I was more than satisfied with its durability. Unlike some other reviewers, the labels on the buttons never wore off on mine. Liked my old one so much that when it finally went, I immediately bought another one. ... show more

The first one I bought just kept flashing weight values without settling to zero. When I submitted for a return , Amazon said to keep it and they shipped out a new one. The new one is a little better but the weight also keeps changing. I missed the return window because it was delivered when we were out of town. A good scale to buy is the Lan Sheng for $19.99. I now have 2 of them and they work great. Very stable, bright display, weighs up to 5000 grams and resolution down to 0.1 gram. ... show more

I loved this scale when I first got it, and I planned to order one of the other colors for myself and give my mom my originial white/chrome one. Unfortunately, almost exactly 6 months after I bought it, it started turning on by itself and giving strange readings. I changed the batteries--brand new ones, right out of the package--and the next day found it powered on by itself again AND showing a low battery icon. I changed them again, and now it seems to work and not work at random. I still find it turned on several times a week--sometimes with and sometimes without the low battery alert showing (with the same set of batteries in it.) It's disappointing, because there are so many great things about this scale. The features are nice, a plate sits securely on the flat round base, and I love that you can zero it out as you add each new item to the plate so you can calculate your total calories for the plate. You can switch between the different units of measure with no problem. I love that it comes in so many nice colors. I just really wish it worked longer than 5-6 months and was a little sturdier. It is very lightweight plastic and has nothing to protect the battery compartment from moisture. To my knowledge, my scale has never gotten wet--but I have to make conscious efforts to keep any liquids away from it. I'm now searching for a reasonbly-priced scale with similar features and size for myself and my mom. UPDATE: I added a couple stars to my original review. The company emailed me stating that they had seen my review and wanted to provide a free replacement for the scale, which they believe to be defective. I don't know if I got a dud or if the scales wear out quick because they're so lightweight. But I do know that customer service like that is rare, where a company contacts YOU and offers to make things right. Usually you have to beg THEM and end up getting nowhere--or at the most they offer you a discount on the NEXT purchase you make from them. This level of customer service from a company is worth the benefit of the doubt and the extra stars, for standing behind their product and actually caring what their customers think and say about their experience. And as stated in my original review, I love the scale itself and the features--I loved it right up until it quit working. Whether or not I take them up their offer, their customer service deserves all 5 stars. UPDATE 2016: As of 4/28/2016, not only is this scale still working, it's still working on the original battery. I follow a strict eating plan and very specific nutrient macros, and this scale is the only way that I can accurately calculate and portion my own recipes and homemade foods. All the functions still work, grams, oz, pounds--as well as the Tare function to zero out the weight of your dish or container. I'm actually really glad I gave this company a second chance, and equally impressed with their customer service who sought me out to provide me with a great product. 5 stars, for product, service, and longevity. ... show more

    • It was great until it stopped working...

I bought this scale 9 months ago and have used it to weigh food daily several times a day. It seemed a little cheap, but it has worked great until the other day it started giving a "UnSt" message and the numbers on the scale keep going up and down without anything on it or touching it. I tried to change the batteries, but that didn't help so I called their customer service and tried to trouble shooting, but the problem persisted. They have a 2 year manufacturer's guarantee, so they are going to replace it. ... show more
