I’m deep into the Tstak/Versastak system, and I have perhaps 8 or 9 of these carts. I love’em, but be aware - in the past they’ve been delivered to me fully assembled. I just got two more last week, and as they say “some assembly required”. (No price reduction, even tho I had to assemble them, but that’s a minor quibble.) What WAS of note was that assembly required a 8mm hex key (aka Allen Wrench), and a 17mm open wrench. These are larger sizes that the vast majority of folks don’t have, and are not included in usual tool sets. I was fortunate that I had actually gone out of my way this summer to fill out my tool sets (look at the photo; I gots tools!); otherwise my next step would have been buying the tools needed. I spent a lot of time debating whether or not to invest in Tstak vs Toughbox vs none of the above. When I went about upgrading my DeWalt line to the 20V MAX line of tools I purposely bought the full kits. Not only because I needed the batteries but I wanted the hard kit boxes that come with them. I figured I wanted protection for my tools so every one should have a kit box. As I accumulated more and more tools I realized I was making 4 or 5 trips out to the car every time I needed to load up for a job. This got old quick (5 trips from house to car, 5 trips to unload at job, 5 trips to re-load, 5 trips to unload at house). So I started looking at Tstak and Toughbox systems from DeWalt. I liked my kit boxes because I could grab JUST my drill or JUST my saw and head out the door. The Toughbox system seems large and cumbersome to use. The wide dolly would have its advantages but I thought the bulk of it in my Honda CR-V would not be a great plan. I also discovered that DeWalt is releasing a Tstak Dolly the first quarter of 2014. So I figured I have upgrade potential in the future if I want a dolly. SO I PICKED Tstak. I love it. The base is sturdy with no wobble in the wheels. It's not meant for job sites outdoors in the dirt or mud. So know that ahead of time. But I can roll it over paved terrain or indoors smooth and silent. It's easy to stack boxes on and to move around as well as detach for the car. The DeWalt Tstak system has been excellent for consolidating my tools into kits, putting the accessories with the tools, and getting them from A to B and back again with far less hassle. Great for stacking your tstak drawers. It is perfect for your garage to bring tools to the spot you are working at. However, I can't believe a solid company like Dewalt would approve this thing to go out with such a terrible assembly process. This should really come pre-assembled, but I guess they wanted to trim 2 inches from their packaging. So they removed the wheels and will make the customers do the assembly. To make it worse, you need an unusual set of tools (NOT INCLUDED) to actually put it together. Fortunately I had the tools needed, but not every homeowner is going to have a large 8mm hex key. Even with the required tools this thing is a pain in the rear to tighten. The spot where the wrench should go is recessed just enough that you can't get the box end of a wrench on it. In fact, you can barely get the open end in there so that it is constantly slipping during tightening. I'm sure I will love this after the memory of the assembly fades, but for now I'm a bit salty about it. Come on Dewalt. Do better. ... show more
