  • For Cosplay Only
Size: X-Large
I thought I'd bring some perspective about this jacket since I have owned many. I currently have two of these jackets - an old leather jacket I actually rode hard with for 5 years and this cosplay jacket. The two jackets I will compare in this review are the Milwaukee Leather jacket (XL, $120) vs what I originally thought was a cheapo jacket when I bought it, the "FIRST Leather" jacket I bought back in 1991 for $89. With adjustment for inflation, both jackets cost about the same. In all pictures, the jacket on the left is my old leather jacket I bought for $89 when i was fairly broke and needed a jacket that would barely suffice to actually ride with. I bought it at a Harley Davidson store in Oceanside, CA. It was all I could afford. Surprisingly, the jacket held out and I still have it as a keepsake of a different era of my life. The jacket on the right in all pix is the Milwaukee Leather jacket for sale here on Amazon, which I just purchased. It arrived literally in 24 hours, amazing turnaround time. Again, with inflation's effect on the dollar since 1991,this Milwaukee jacket cost about the same as the old FIRST Leather jacket from '91. Sadly, with pricing being about equal, the quality is very different and the Milwaukee jacket makes my old cheapo jacket look like a million bucks. There is much written about the Milwaukee jacket here that praises this jacket up and down for the money you spend on it. I have a feeling that this is based on the average person not knowing what real leather is all about or this being their first exposure to a leather jacket of any kind. Just because "it smells like real leather!" doesn't mean it's of any quality. And here we have our problem: "genuine leather" doesn't mean cowhide. The US government changed the laws years ago that allows ANY animal's hide to be classified as "leather". So if you got a "leather" jacket that absolutely stinks and doesn't smell like cowhide, Milwaukee might have sent you a jacket made out of goat, pig, or anything else. There's a difference between "genuine leather" (which could include lizard, eel, horse, sheep, dog, cat, etc) and real "steer/cowhide". Not knowing your leather means a company like Milwaukee can rip you off and you'd never know it. For example, some people in here complain of leather jackets stinking badly - there is no such thing as a real cowhide product of any kind that smells bad, which means it's not cowhide at all and you've been sucker-punched. Send it back. In these pics, the FIRST(tm) Leather jacket on the left, my old jacket with battle scars, was considered to be the cheapest, lowest-quality jacket in the store at the time. Hence the price of only $89 in 1991. It was all I could afford, but hey, being broke spoke very loudly. Now look at the quality of the leather, the thickness of the leather, and the quality and durability of the lining of the old jacket on the left. My old jacket (left) was worn multiple times a day and ridden hard on a motorcycle non-stop for 5 years in SoCal desert heat and the occasional San Diego downpour, with me perspiring into it the whole time rain or shine. The old jacket's leather is way thicker, proving that any claim that the Milwaukee jacket is "full thickness" is very much not the case. My old jacket's leather wasn't even really full 1.5mm thickness and yet it's still twice as thick as the Milwaukee jacket. And my old jacket's liner (non-removable) is still intact and in fairly good condition for being beaten to death by a reckless 20-something for 5 years, 7 days a week - this is due to good stitching with thick thread. This Milwaukee jacket - if you ride with it at highway speed, I guarantee those junebugs are going to feel like bullets due to that thin leather and that lining is going to come right apart with any constant wind flapping. More on that lining: There are LOTS of complaints in here about the fragile lining in the Milwaukee jacket tearing easily if not already coming apart upon delivery. Um - YIKES, to say the least. I'm one of the lucky ones that actually got a jacket that wasn't falling apart or had holes in the leather upon delivery. Translation: this purchase was a total gamble and I just lucked out, that's all. Fact is, NOBODY should be getting bad deliveries - it's a leather jacket for cryin' out loud, not a Chinese cell phone. One should have every reason to expect an article of clothing that isn't falling apart on delivery. Metal: ALL of these cheaper leather jackets have metal fasteners and "eye candy" that rusts easily. None of it is stainless outside of the zippers, my old jacket included. The only reason my old jacket's metal isn't fully rusted brown is because constant use kept scraping the rust off as it formed. But the side lace grommets under the arms show the real story. The Milwaukee jacket is no different. If you get them wet, dry them off or they rust immediately. Leather vs cloth: Take a good look at the sleeve zippers - my old cheapo jacket has actual leather under the zipper while the Milwaukee jacket is just liner cloth. Anybody that's worn leather for any length of time knows that the sleeves get more wear than any other part of the jacket. I would not bet any money on the durability of the Milwaukee jacket, and just to hide that cheapo non-leather cloth, I'd leave the sleeves zipped.. General quality, fit, finish, and feel: Yes, any leather jacket will smell like leather when it comes out of the box. So does a plastic baseball mit with one single piece of leather on it. And it will still smell like leather 30 years later like my old jacket does. That is, if the leather is thick enough to stand up to being treated like a real leather jacket and thus you don't end up throwing it away when the liner tears like tissue paper. My FIRST(tm) jacket held up to near-combat use for 5 years. I can guarentee this Milwaukee jacket's liner is going to be toast unde r those same conditions. Bottom line is that my junker old jacket that was considered nothing more than a bargain jacket back in the 90s that I actually ended up using for real riding would easily sell for much more now and be considered some kind of high quality jacket with "premium" leather, stitching, and liner. So make no mistake - this Milwaukee jacket is a mediocre quality cosplay/poser jacket, but nothing more. As far as quality leather goes, this jacket is one step above a hoodie and will not withstand the old practice of beating the crap out of your new leather jacket for a week in front of the TV to break it in - that would utterly destroy this Milwaukee jacket. Before I answer why I bought this jacket, it's clear that I got way more for $89 back in the 90s than this jacket's equivalent inflation-matched price today. The leather is not thick enough to ever properly form-fit the way good leather does and it will stand up to no abuse whatsoever. Know that the inner (non-removable) lining isn't going to last long at all, so treat it VERY gently - it's as fragile as a kitchen garbage bag. Bottom line: My riding days are over and I bought this jacket for all it's good for - going to rock concerts with my wife before all the good bands that actually know how to sing without AutoTune and actually play real instruments die off. It's good for poser/cosplay purposes only and is way too thin, fragile, and poor-fitting for actual riding. This jacket will not turn you into anything you see in a Mad Max movie - it just makes you smell like leather. Good for cosplay - but half the lather jacket I got for the same price in '91, which I actually rode hard with. UPDATE (2019-07-21): Just not happy with the jacket. Just too much junk factor going on with it. Returning it and buying a real leather jacket by a trusted and well-known manufacturer that actually lists leather thickness and delivers the product they are advertising. I also like quality permanent linings, not the "fall apart in 3 weeks" cheapo linings they put into these zip-out liner jackets. I never even took the tags or labels off this jacket, I new I'd never actually wear it once I opened the box and got a good look at it. I don't care if I have to pay $1K, I want a real leather jacket with thick 1.5mm quality steerhide and YKK zippers. UPDATE 2019-07-22: I am pleased to report that my old "FIRST(tm) leather jacket was made by a company that is still in business and producing the highest quality jackets for the money around. The company is called "FIRST Manugacturing", or FMC. Google' 'em. Best leather jackets being made for the money. My old jacket's model as show in this review is the "Remington", which is now called the "Superstar" model. And guess what - it's only $150. You're welcome. FMC also has a custom jacket program that allows you to design your own custom jacket they build for you for a higher price. BOOM - I'm all over this! Having a custom "Remington" made up with top grain genuine steerhide that cannot be found anywhere else, including Schott's entire (and hideously overpriced) product line. But first things first - just bought a brand new FMC Remington on Ebay brand new with tags for only $118. Double-BOOM. ... show more

  • Milwaukee leather vs. Nomad leather biker jackets - which one should you get?
Size: X-Large
Update as of 09/05/2017: I have removed 2 stars due to some Quality Control issues I am experiencing with this company brand. As you can read below in my original post, I really want to love this jacket. I still do. Unfortunately, I discovered in my first jacket (later returned and upon which this review was written about) puncture marks in the upper rear panel which went all the way through the leather. Also, there were mis-marked cutting patterns drawn throughout the jacket (I was ok with this, as I did not feel this compromised the jacket in any way). The second "replacement" jacket came with mis-punched holes around the belt loop area. Holes punched all the way through, but left unstitched (this jacket was also returned). After some considerable thought, I decided that the third time could be the "charm" and so made the leap. Currently, I am holding this jacket in my hands. It also has puncture marks (different locations on the top and bottom rear panels), mis-marked cut-guide lines and a split rivet on the front belt... Which leads me to this update & star reduction... Either: 1.) Milwaukee is having some serious Quality Control issues with their manufacturing in Pakistan, or; 2.) These are simply "factory seconds" that several wholesalers bought up, and are now passing off on Amazon as "firsts." Either way, I encourage that you inspect your jackets closely for stitching, mis-drawn cut-guide lines or simply just puncture marks in the leather. I do not feel that anyone should pay "factory first" prices for a "factory second" so please protect yourselves from unscrupulous sellers. Good Luck. As of: 07/27/2017. This is my initial review of this jacket. I have ordered several jackets so far, and will be comparing it to the "NOMAD" jacket that is being listed at $69.99 + $9.99 (S&H) as of this time also on Amazon. Short review: AVOID the NOMAD. Spend a little more to get this jacket. This jacket is definitely superior to the NOMAD jacket from what I am seeing. Your money will have been well spent. You can rest easy knowing you made the right choice, instead of questioning if you should have bought the other jacket over this one. Read the long review if you want the details. Long review: I am not a muscular guy. I'm not tall, dark, or handsome by any means. I'm 5'10" around 200 pounds. None of that being muscle. I'm not "average" looking. I'm straight out pudgy fat (and ugly). My chest is around a 42-44. My waist is around 36-38. I look like a barrel, but made of jelly-lard. I'm hitting my mid-life crisis moment - so I'm purchasing leather jackets left and right. That's just me. I don't care why you're buying it, but that is why I have so many jackets coming in. That's why I'm giving you a plain review of this jacket compared to the Nomad. I wasn't too into the Milwaukee jacket at first because of the weird leather tie things on the sides. Some people might be into that. I was more into the NOMAD jacket from the photographs. However, when both jackets arrived, it was night and day. The Milwaukee jacket (the superior one) has a info-label included. It gives a little history of the jacket. There is a 2 year warranty on it (no idea how good Milwaukee will be on following through with the promise, but at least they intend for it to last that long). As long as you don't add stuff to it, or mess around with it, the jacket is covered. (I recommend that you just wear it the way you got it for two years, then personalize it with whatever you want if you're worried about the warranty). They also claim that the jacket is made from "fine full grain leather" - I got to give it to them for their honesty. Instead of saying "FINEST" they are just saying something like, "Dude, its not a SCHOTT Perfecto, but you and I both know what you paid for it. *knowing wink*" At the same time, the jacket DOES feel like full grain, and it feels GOOD. This jacket fits me. I mean, I don't want to say that it was "made for me," but... it was made for me. I don't have big bulky manly, hulk arms like every other male reviewers seem to have. I got skinny little nerd forearms. I ain't proud of them, but I ain't ashamed of them either. Hey, I was born with what I was born with, and I'm going to appreciate the heck out of having arms in the first place, right? Anyway, the sleeves are a bit tight on me... So, just a bit of a heads up for the hulks, Vin Diesels and Dwayne Johnsons out there. It probably won't matter for you, since your arms will tear through such puny leathers anyway. It will be a leather vest instead. They have little zippers to loosen up the sleeves a bit, and the material in between is fabric - unlike all the other motorcycle jackets I've come across which have been leather (and I've come across around two - so that's not saying much). This jacket also comes with a liner that can be unzipped and removed (the Nomad does not). This is where I feel the main difference of cost between the Milwaukee and Nomad jackets are most apparent. The liner does not seem like a super high quality item, but putting a remove-able liner in means sewing the zippers all around the inside of the jacket etc. which just feels tedious, but also adds a "customize-able" look to it now as it can be worn more filled-out or looser. Now, the NOMAD. The NOMAD did not come as pictured in their listing. It has three leather panels on the back instead of the two they are showing in their photos. For those of you who do not know the significance of this or if its not a big deal, get the NOMAD. Its cheaper and I'm sure you'll look great in the photos for your face-ta-gram or whatever... Nothing wrong with that. But for those of you who do know a little about it, you know that large pieces of leather are harder to come by, and therefore more expensive to get. Seams in leather create weaknesses where the jackets can tear apart etc. (you are basically creating a perforation in the leather with the stitching - like how the old stamps used to be when they were sold in sheets instead of sticker rolls) If you are a legit biker and thinking about buying this jacket so you can ride around with a quality jacket that will last you at least two years, get the MILWAUKEE. The Milwaukee has two leather panels on the back. One top and one bottom. This is significant because people who ride bikes have to put their arms on the handlebars of the bikes (stretching their backs out - I think?). The back paneling is important as it will be stretching and in-stretching lots and lots of times. It will be put under heavy stress. If you have three back panels with the top panel sewn together right down the middle, there is a chance that these two panels will simply separate after prolonged use. Anyway, I hope that made some sort of sense to the people who don't ride, as it felt complicated for me to type out. I would still recommend getting a more modern "armored" jacket for your motorcycle instead of this one, but some guys out there are simply awesome on their bikes - they don't need helmets when they are jumping over exploding cars and firing their machine guns one handed at other people on bikes. The leather for the NOMAD jacket also appears to be a thinner (not full grain) and cheaper overall in terms of manufacture. It also has a weird smell out of the bag - like some sort of synthetic leather spray smell. Yes. They really exist. So, did I think I was going to look like a bad@$$ wearing this jacket? Heck yeah. Did I actually look like a bad@$$ wearing this thing? Well, no. I just look like a middle aged, average, pudgy guy going through my mid-life crisis. I love the fit of this jacket. But I can definitely see this going on a younger, fitter, more muscular dude than me who actually rides a motor bike. Not just an electric bike with pedals. Still going to wear the heck out of this jacket though, cause it feels great! Anyway, I hope this helps. I love the Milwaukee jacket. I feel it is a high quality jacket for what you pay. It is clearly different from the Nomad jacket they are also selling on Amazon, but different people have different situations and needs. Maybe I'll buy another one to test out quality and consistency in this jacket. I purchase these items with my own hard earned pennies. If you found this review helpful, please send over some love with a thumbs up! ... show more
