I've only had it for a day, but based on overall reviews for G-Technology drives, I'm pretty confident on the reliability of the drive. I purchased the ev RaW version over the G-Drive Mobile as I wanted to "future proof" the drive in the event I decide the G-Dock ev would be a prudent investment. Additionally, the $10 premium over the standard (and non-ev compatible mobile) provides the rubber bumper for those clumsy moments we sometimes encounter. So far, the benchmarks are in-line with G-Tech's family of 7200 portable drives with USB 3.0 connectivity (~120-130MB/s Read/Write via the BlackMagic disk speed test). Definitely happy with the drive so far, so much that I've purchased an additional RaW drive. ... show more

It's reliable. My only issue is the rubber thing is bulky. and yes, this is an issue, but the USB port on the drive is upside down.

Items arrived well packaged. I did extensive research on this and other G-technology products before purchasing this from Amazon. I am a professional photographer and use external drives extensively for storing & editing images, videos, and managing image catalogs. These are top of the line portable drives in their class as of 2016. I use these drives with a G-Dock EV with thunderbolt on my MacPro desktop computer. When using them remotely I use them with the USB 3 cable (if using a PC or older MacBook), or with the Thunderbolt adapter when using newer MacBook Pro. When using them with Thunderbolt connectivity the read/write speeds are phenomenal. ... show more

    • Not a good longterm drive

I bought this product to use for storing video footage and photos for editing. While I liked the rubber protective aspect of the drive, and the speeds were good, the durability of the usb port on the drive is not the greatest. Bought this drive in Fall 2019, the first year it worked fine, then I noticed it would constantly disconnect and reconnect if the drive was moved in the slightest. This is very annoying and can result in losing files. Now about 2.5 years later and the usb port on the drive is barely working, having to force the connection in the drive to get all my files off so I dont lose them. This drive was purchased a year ago to be used with a Mac laptop as storage for pictures and videos. Due to the portable nature of laptops and the informal work environment I made sure to choose this drive for its ability to handle accidental drops and bumps. While it has meet the need in every other regard, it has the unfortunate tendency to disconnect from the computer if you bump the cable, drive, or laptop. This is due to the connection at the drive and did not come about due to abuse or wear. The drive and laptop must be placed on a stable surface and none of it bumped while in use or frustration will ensue as the drive disappears then reappears a moment later. ... show more
