I cannot thank you enough to Zinus. I have had a tough time for the past few years with my back. There was a point in my back where an epidural was given and around that spot it use to hurt so bad just after waking up from sleep. Also that specific pain point tortured the whole day. I was sleeping on extremely hard mattress and all we hear is hard mattress is best right??? And I thought I was doing all right what could be the issue until one day when we went on a trip, I slept really well in Hyatt and the next day my back did not hurt. The mattress in the motel was decent not very hard. I was shocked when I figured out that an extremely hard mattress can also cause such a big pain. So I went ahead on amazon, did a lot of research, visited stores around me, tried very expensive brands in stores, mom & pop shops. I was skeptical but finally bought this mattress when one of our close friends recommended this. Oh boy! Awesome was my first word.After using extremely soft & hard mattress I learned a few things: 1) Mattress should be neither v hard nor v soft like all memory foam. It should be just the perfect amount 2) Zinus had somehow figured out that formula 3) It is just soft on outer layers where you really need to relieve those pressure points 4) It is equally hard on the bottom layers which does not cause unnecessary pressure on bones 5) It is good for back or stomach sleeper as well 6) I am side sleeper and if you are one too, then this is best for you 7) My sleep quality improved as well after starting to use this mattress I will post the updates after a few months ... show more

I’m writing this review for any one who prefer firm mattresses and are back/side sleepers. First of, I’m using this bed as a secondary bed for my second room. I have a $1,200 firm queen mattress I bought 4 years ago that has set the expectation for this twin bed. After unpacking, you do have to give it 2-3 days for it to fully decompress. It is NOT extra firm. For me it feels more on the extra medium firm. I wouldn’t call it firm. The extra padding on the 12-inch mattress provides a softer cushion and it will compress for a heavier person. Next up, it is not for people who like sitting on their bed while watching tv. The mattress does not have good edge control and will completely sink if you sit on the edges. Lastly, it does not look like a mattress that will last years and will never sink after heavy use. I gave it 4 stars because considering it’s price it’s not a total let down. It’s actually pretty good. I was expecting it to be a really cheaply made mattress but it is firmer than most beds and has not made my back hurt and considering the comparison between the $1,200 bed, this one doesn’t completely let me down. ... show more

I waited to write this review until I had slept on it first almost a month. First of all, I had this on a box spring. I didn't know if I would keep it, soft some firmness hard to roll over in bed. Long story short I changed my bed to a old vintage bed and frame, this did not need a boxspring. WOW! Changed the whole feeling of the mattress. On the slats it made the mattress seem more firm. Absolutely lovely to sleep on. I needed the mattress to be firmer and this solved my issue completely. I hope this review helps anyone looking for a firm mattress. I am a very large woman it is now very easy to roll over and move around on without being swallowed up by a softer mattress. Thank you for being reasonably priced so a senior citizen can afford to purchase. It has helped my back pain, and it is giving me a good nights sleep. ... show more

Short version: My wife and I have had this mattress for over a year now and can say with confidence that it was an excellent purchase- it is still firm and has no sags or dips. I highly recommend it. I have held off on writing a review for this mattress because I felt it was necessary to sleep on it for an extended period of time to give it the most fair and accurate review. My wife and I purchased this mattress over a year ago, in November 2017. After going to all the local stores, from big box to mom and pop, my wife and I found ourselves with a problem: we could tell which mattresses were soft and which were firm, but aside from that we didn't really feel much difference apart from the price tag- almost all of which exceeded a thousand dollars, with some approaching two grand. That's quite an outlay of cash. So, going off reviews on Amazon we took the leap on this Zinus Extra Firm iCoil 12 inch king mattress. We also purchased a steel foundation upon which to set the mattress in our bed frame. The box arrived a little beat up, but my wife and I muscled it into the house and carried it upstairs together. It's a two person job, but not impossible. We set the rolled up mattress on our guest bed and carefully cut away the plastic so the bed would unroll. (Pro tip: Don't stand between the mattress and the wall. You might get pinched) We followed the directions and let the mattress sit undisturbed for 2 or 3 days so it could fully expand. After which time, we moved it into our bedroom. It's now more than one year on and I feel qualified to report on the mattress. It is firm, but not rock hard. This is obviously subjective, so all I can say is that you know a firm mattress when you lay on one, and this is a firm mattress but is still comfortable. I'm a side and stomach sleeper, and my wife is a back sleeper. I'm 5'11", 230lbs, and we'll just say that my wife is plus sized and leave it at that. The mattress supports both of us fine, and a year later has no depressions, dips, sags or problem areas. The last time I did laundry I snapped some photos of the mattress which I have posted above. You'll notice the mattress is still even and flat, even after a year of nightly use. I purchased this mattress myself, with my own money, have no relationship with the manufacturer, and am receiving nothing in return for writing this review. I just know how difficult it is take the leap of purchasing something like this over the internet, so I thought I'd write a review to help people in a similar situation my wife and I found ourselves in last year. This mattress was an excellent purchase, I've recommended it to friends, and if you're in the market for a fairly priced firm mattress, I can recommend it to you as well. Cheers. ... show more
