Needed to find something to shield the sun on my porch. Being an A frame, I wasn't sure that we could find anything that would work. It works perfect. The delivery man was wonderful and helpful. Packaging was very professional. Easy to install, but it does take 2 men.

I really like this awning. I bought the 12 x 10 motorized version and wanted it installed above a new deck. However, the soffit height above the deck was only about 7-1/2 feet so I wanted to see about mounting it on the roof. After watching some YouTube videos, I located nice stainless steel brackets from Source One Distribution in Florida. I asked tech support at Advaning and they actually mentioned the brackets from Source One. I ordered three of the brackets from Source One; they were about $55 each and very well made with all of the stainless steel fasteners included. The fasteners are high-quality with washers and rubberized lock nots. One thing I ran into: the house is a ranch with the trusses spaced 2 feet on center. The awning mounting rail is about 11'10" so I wasn't going to be able to get the two outside brackets at the ends of the awning. The instructions say to mount the awning brackets outside of the arms that lower the awning and these are positioned about 4" from either side. I called Advaning tech support and told them what I had, and the rep said that they could be positioned farther in as long as the brackets were clear of the arms. So I was able to install the two outside brackets 10' apart and the center one at 4' from one of the ends. By the way, Advaning's tech support was great. I left a message both times I called and they got right back to me (thank you Jesse!). As far as installation, I drilled pilot holes in the asphalt roof, making sure I hit the trusses. I put some roofing cement under each bracket and used the supplied lag bolts to secure the bottom of the brackets to the roof. The lag bolts come with the awning, not the roof brackets. Then I assembled the rest of the roof brackets, using a level to get the mounting face plumb. Before securing the white awning brackets to the roof brackets, I had to slightly enlarge the two holes in the stainless steel roof brackets with a drill bit. I fastened the awning brackets to the roof brackets. The awning is heavy but my son and I were able to walk up two stepladders and slide it onto the brackets. After sliding it in, we slid the retaining bolts and nuts in place and had some room to slide the awning side-to-side to center it on the deck. After it was centered, I tightened the bolts, removed the shipping restraints, and plugged it in. After a few minor leveling adjustments, we had a beautiful working awning! Here are some things to know when considering roof mounting: 1) If you have good soffit clearance, it is preferable to wall or soffit mount it if you can. This gives you more weather protection and will save you the expense of roof brackets. 2) We live in the northeast with harsh winters so it will be important to protect a roof-mounted awning. Also, being roof mounted can expose it to more wind regardless of the season. Advaning does sell a cover for the awning, but I may consider taking it down for the winter. 3) You will be putting holes in your roof! Make sure you know what you are doing or get professional help. I used a high-quality, all-weather roof cement to seal in the brackets. And don't cut corners on roof brackets. I am very happy with the Source One brackets. As far as color, I purchased the khaki, but it is more of a deep golden yellow (which is fine, but not quite the color I was expecting). It does make it cheery underneath when the sun is out. Our deck faces south, we have a high degree of sunlight, which makes the deck unbearable in the summer. We purchased this awning to replace an older one that was 10 years old. We utilized the existing roof mounted brackets because of the low head room above the sliding door. The roof mount also allows heat to vent out under the awning. This awning has the ability to be tilted downward, which was a nice selling feature that other awning companies didn't offer. Unfortunately living on the east coast, we had to wait about 2 weeks for this to be delivered, in part to the fabric color that we selected. The black fabric adds a few extra days to the ordering, but we selected the black fabric because it matches our home. After unboxing, we found the right side of the awning had a damaged part that was not noticed during delivery, the box didn't appear to have damage. One call to Advaning, and they are shipping out a replacement part at no cost. We are able to enjoy the back deck again in the shade. 😎 ... show more

This is a great awning and very competitively priced, especially compared to the other expensive awning company that would have cost twice the price of Advaning Awnings. I purchased the tan 10' W x 8' Deep (Extension). I posted before and after pictures. It was delivered just prior to the Christmas holidays and I got it mounted today with this incredible weather in Kansas. The installation was a piece of cake! You do need a second person to help lift it onto the mounting brackets, but that took two minutes. Highly recommend this awning! ... show more

This is a great Awning... I was easily able to install it and only needed the second guy for the lifting in to place which took only a couple minutes. The quality is high and the function is very Straight forward. First things first... It arrived in a heave large box... two people needed to move it into your garage or wherever you need to keep it until you are ready to install. no signature was required but the driver told my neighbor and she let me know it arrived. the unboxing is an amazing experience... I should have taken a photo... layer after layer of boxing... a lot for the recycle can but it wont arrived damaged even if the box is beat up. here are a couple of things you need to know about the manual verse the website... the website states you need a min of 10" I had 12" so I ordered... when I studied the manual it stated that you needed 12" plus1" for a total of 13" above the door or window... I called customer service thinking that I would need to return it and found out that I really only needed about 8 inches... confusing yes ..but good news to me so I installed the brackets (measure carefully the distance apart as there is very little wiggle room on the 10foot) got my partner to lift it up with me and boom it was done! I needed to adjust the pitch as I am over a door that opens out but it clears the door easily... There are a couple of minor things to complain about for me... one... with there was an option for a non-scalloped front. I like a cleaner look and the scalloping is a bit old fashioned. its ok... but would have liked the front to have a cleaner look... second. there is a unexplained tool (see the photo, green wand thing) I have know idea and its not explained in the manual... but I did not need it so I just put it with the manual in my saved manual box... Anyhow, I love it … love the button to close it when rain is on the way... easy easy … ... show more
