9/25/20- First Review- Set Up and Initial Break In Runs After a few days of delay I finally got this unit unboxed and put together. My sweet wife helped with the set up process all the way. Two people definitely made it easier. It weighs about 135 lbs so an extra set of hands were very welcome. The removal of the metal and wood shipping braces went as expected. If you have your own hand tool set I recommend using them as the factory supplied wrenches were a little light weight for the job. You could get the job done with what was supplied but my own DIY tools made it a breeze. The tires are firm [not air filled] and they work well in wheeling the generator around the garage. No complaints. Added the recommended oil and gas. It started right up and ran well. Only 15 minutes during first run. It is quiet for a generator and we can barley hear it inside the house when its running. Per recommendations instead of using the key to turn it off I turned off the gasoline supply and let the motor die by its own accord. Let it set for about 45 minutes, turned on the gas and it again fired right up. Next run was an hour followed again by cutting the fuel supply. No runs, no drips at all during both runs. Its a clean machine for me. Happy with this purchase! Will update as time and run times increase. Honestly, I hope I never have to use it for real. We do live in the mountains and winter is a tough time for people and continual electric service. The deer in the front yard didn't care a wit that the generator was running. I took that as the Deer Seal of Approval for this DuroMax! 11/13/20- UPDATE! We had our first big Fall storm overnight. Power went off at 2am and stayed off until 4pm. This generator ran perfectly and provided ample power to run what was needed during the outage. Started right up and ran like a champ. Wife and I appreciated having electricity when no one else apparently did. Fuel usage was miserly as well which was a big bonus too. Ran the well pump and all of the lights and appliances never missing a beat. I'm always a little cautious with any new generator. This one has proven itself today! Recommend to all if you need a great portable generator ... this is one for serious consideration. Happy campers here this evening. ... show more

I bought this to use with my camper for an event at my local dragstrip with the intent of having a back-up generator for my house if needed. I was suprised on how fuel effiecient it was, as I was running the A/C the entire time over the course of 3 days. It would run 12+ hours on a tank of fuel. Arrived in just a couple of days and in good shape. Easy to assemble and set up. Key start on this XP5500E is a blessing and it started right away. Tested it out on a couple of appliances and it works fine. Will add a ground rod. Bought this one on sale and price was $110 off regular. Noise level is less than expected. There were a couple of things wrong with it. The nut that is on one of the rods holding down the clamp on the battery was crossthreaded. Generator arrived within three days of ordering on Christmas day, as the coldest storm of my life was just about done up here in NY. We were lucky enough to Not lose power during the storm, but I will never go through that again without backup power!! It arrived in good condition, with no visible shipping damage to the generator (box was a bit beaten up). Went together easy enough and fired right up first try, as they ship with a charged battery, which needs negative terminal connecting before use, funny enough, it does not say anywhere in the instructions to reconnect battery?? It was pretty obvious to me, but I am sure there's going to be people that miss it!! I tested the generator long enough to fire up my pellet stove, and boil a tea kettle, which it did no problem. Over all, very happy with my purchase, I didn't have a lot of money to spend and was very surprised and very pleased to find a generator big enough for my needs for under $400, as I said above the piece of mind is priceless!! ... show more

I purchased the generator for backup power the only issue was the delivery by fedex the delivery driver just rolled it out the back of a van into my gravel driveway the box was all taped up. When I opened the box good thing it was packed really well, but both shock mounts were broken and a wire was broken from the starter. I called Duromax and they made everything right. I wouldn’t suggest using fedex for a heavy delivery when I contacted them of course they denied everything until I sent them a video from my security camera they never replied corporate giants DO NOT CARE. But far as the generator it’s a good product for the price. ... show more
