  • Great shoes!
I am mid-forties. My athletic skills and balance are not good. I decided to take up hiking as a hobby because I liked camping/nature as a child and I want to find things to do as I get older that I enjoy that don't involve TV or the internet. I went hiking this weekend and LOVED these shoes! They were very comfortable. I hiked for over 3 hours and my feet felt great at the end. The shoes got wet midway thru and dried well. Most importantly, I was on wet/smooth/slippery rock constantly and many other type of terrain and I never slipped or lost grip. I honestly believe these shoes saved me from a busted a$$/tailbone. I am 100% happy with my purchase and looking forward to using them again soon. ... show more

  • Great shoes with one constructive criticism for Saucony
First pair of Saucony shoes in a long time. I really liked: PROS: - fit is perfect with just the right amount of trail feel (some cushion but not too much); - traction is excellent! For rocky trail running/hiking these lugs are super grippy. - laces are good - sometimes simple is better and flat laces tend to be better for not feeling the laces on the top of your feet after your feet swell up a bit. CONS: - sole durability is an issue. I was about to order a 2nd pair of these because I liked them so much. However, the sole lugs started ripping off - you can see one "row" has failed and a 2nd row is about to fail (the other shoe in this pair is not ripped, fwiw). These photos were taken at 60 miles of use, which is quite a bit short of the 250 miles I would estimate a running shoe should be good for. Maybe not an issue if you are a smaller runner or use these on soft trails. I still like these enough to rate 4 stars and I'll probably just try to glue them up (or failing that cut off the pieces to prevent the rips from getting bigger). ... show more

  • Great all terrain shoe.
Nice all terrain shoe. I ordered my normal size (9) and it fits perfectly. I like that the shoe laces are not 5 miles long. The sole of the shoe is thick and you feel a little taller when wearing these. Breathability is noticed right away when you put these on. I have switched from the saucony excursion tr model that i have worn out to this perrigrine 8 model. Im not a big runner, but i walk alot on varied terrain and also hike in the woods alot and i feel these shoes cover all areas well. The extra cushioning puts plantar fascitis at ease. Thats my 2 cents. ... show more

  • Great for the Oakland hills, loving these in the rain/mud
I bought these shoes 8 months ago from the time of this review. The first pic is from when I got the shoes new and just took the others today. I would say that I think they could be made with more sturdy materials, as you can see I have a decent amount of wear on the shoes along with some holes and a rubbed through hole on ankle surround area. However this really depends on your usage of the shoes and what your walking/running style is in consideration to how much wear they get. I have used these on an average of 15 to 20 miles a week either running/hiking. I have used them recently in the crazy rain we are experiencing and they have been great in the slop, mud, puddles and running streams of water. They will not keep your feet dry but with all the mesh I found they push the water out pretty quickly and haven't had much of an issue with warmth even when wet. I am very active in these however as you can see so personally that's not much of a concern. The fit is great, traction is second to none and overall just a great trail running/hiking show. I see they are ~50% less than when I bought so I got another pair today for when these fall apart on me. I typically wear a 9 to 9.5 and got these in 9.5 and they fit perfectly. They are very pliable on the bottom so it's easy to mold around the various obstacles you'll find on the trail. Been absolutely loving these things in the rain/mud. ... show more

  • Take a bite out trails
I ordered these after being somewhat disappointed with the Salomon Men's X Ultra 3 GTX Trail Running Shoe. While the Salomons are a good shoe, for ~$150 I expect a great shoe, and on that point the Peregrine 8s deliver! They fit snug, have decent flexibility, and grip the heck out of all trail surfaces I've experienced, wet and dry. I wear them for hiking as well as for running. I've been able to run uphill on wet mulch trails while staying on the balls of my feet and have had zero slipping or loss of traction. They bite into trails, provide good traction even on smooth rock surfaces, and are an all around great performer no matter what style you use to enjoy trails. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Good for trail use
Overall it's a good shoe. I wore them indoors for a couple of days before taking the tags off and wearing them outside. There are a few hot spots but not enough to cause problems. I wore them to work for a day to continue the break in. One thing I noticed right away is they tend to "drift" on smooth and low carpet floors. I attributes this to the depth and spacing of the traction cleats. It makes every smooth floor feel slightly greasy. I felt this on sidewalks and roads too. If your ankles roll easily, pay extra attention when surfaces change. Now for the good stuff. The next day I took them on a 5+ mile trail run. Moderate terrain changes and surfaces that varied from grass to dirt to gravel and river rocks. No issues with traction. The felt exceptionally secure up and down inclines, some were pretty aggressive. I even ran up a few fallen tree trunks to see if the would conform to the rounded surface. I don't usually care how athletic gear looks, only how it performs. I got the red/black versus the green/black (what I would have preferred) simply because of the price difference. The style is actually pretty snazzy. They'll be totally destroyed by the end of the summer obstacle course racing season but for now they look great! In conclusion: I wouldn't use them for a street sneaker or a road runner because if the greasy feel from the cleat drift. However, I believe they will be a contributor to helping me shave some time off my trail runs and obstacle races. ... show more
