We had a couple of salesmen from the Name brand awnings come to our home to pitch their awnings. The idea of paying several thousand $$$ for an awning just didn't set well with us. being retired we thought, hey we have time, we can put this together right? Well, just as I had read in the other reviews, the instructions were written by someone not from our country who didn't have a full grasp of the English language!!! It took the better part of the day to assemble (we are 70 & 71) but when it came time to hoist it up into the brackets our son and daughter in law came to our rescue and ws a treamendous help. Our son had to make a couple corrections for our mis-assembly but when he left, it was installed and works great. I am glad we decided to stress ourselves out and save about $6000 We have used it a couple of times and I can see that having it up on our upper deck it gets a lot of wind from the lake, we plan to get a couple sticks of PC pipe and reinforce the outside edge so it stays in place better. If you decide to DIY make sure you have someone strong and mechanically inclined to install it. ... show more

    • Check all bolts before installing

Took 1 day to assemble, 1 day to install and another day to adjust and set limits. Assembly wasn’t too bad after watching videos on the net. You have to be exact on where you place the wall brackets as all the bolts and roller supports limit where to can place them. After installing the wall brackets I had help and we got it up. The small bolts that hold the assembly in the brackets are hard to install as the rolled up shade impedes you from getting the nuts on. Now this is where it gets troubling. After I got it all up, I hand cranked it out a bit and then used the power to close it. It was fine until it started to get about closed and then it started to bind up. I stopped it and noticed there was no way it would close. After a night of restless sleep I decided to loosen all bolts connecting the arms to the valance and slowly cranked it closed. Once closed I tightened all valance bolts and found that if these are not securely tightened the arms will slide on the valance and bind it up. The instructions should give exact measurements where the arms are to connect to the valance beam but they don’t. After tightening everything it worked great. The last thing was setting the limits. Be aware that the adjustments are done on top of the motor and if you mounted the shade under an overhang, you need to have 6inches or more clearance to be able to get the plastic tool in there. The tool will bend but it makes it difficult if you don’t have a lot of clearance. Other than installing issues, it works fine. ... show more

Love the 16 x 10 motorized awning. But assembly instructions and videos are so poor, plan on spending 30 hours on assembly, even if you are a skilled craftsman.

    • Good Quality Awning - VERY bad instructions

My deck gets very hot in the summer time, so, for years, I thought about an awning. When I saw all of the options for the Aleko Motorized awning, I was sold. I selected a 10' x 8' motorized awning in Gray. It arrived faster than expected and in perfect condition. All of the parts were there and perfectly packaged. Prior to purchasing, I read the reviews which mentioned that the instructions were bad. I didn't pay much attention to it. BUT those comments were accurate. First, there was NO INSTRUCTION MANUAL, in the box. I got mine by calling Aleko support who gave me a link to a PDF Manual. They also told me to watch the online installation videos. Quite frankly, neither helped. I'm an experienced do-it-yourselfer (thankfully), but I found the manual and the videos really lacking. I assembled and mounted the unit and, as soon as it was up and I started to deploy and retract it, I knew it was wrong. I had to take it down, fix the assembly and re-hang it. It was frustrating. That said, now that it's installed and working properly, I am very pleased with the quality and functionality. I think the material used for the awning will last a long time (and, with what I know now, I think it will be easy to replace it, if it's ever necessary. So, overall, I'm pleased with the purchase. If they'd spend just a little time fixing the instructions and create some clear videos, this could easily get to 4 or 5 stars. ... show more

    • What a fiasco, but I still like the awning.
Material had a burn mark on it, got a replacement over 3 weeks later after multiple emails. Motor only turned one way, that had to be replaced... The overall awning is solid and the instructions weren't horrible. You can even watch the video on youtube, which helps a lot. I was just upset, that now a month later, I just now have all the replacements so it works properly. I do have to give a shout out to their tech support group. The guy who helped me troubleshoot the motor was great and super patient. Unfortunately it had to be replaced, but overall, I still like the awning. Make sure you are mounting this into the studs and you have multiple people to help put it up; it is really heavy!!! (We had to add a 2x6 brace on the outside of our home, since the studs didn't line up with the awning mounts) Also, I totally recommend buying the ceiling mount brackets. They are actually multi-functional and much more sturdy than the basic mounts you get. (you need 3 of them for the 12x10 awning.) ... show more

    • DIFFICULT INSTRUCTIONS
MY HUSBAND 2 SONS AND DAUGHTER IN LAW WORKED ON IT FOR OVER 7 HRS. ITS NICE NOW THAT ITS UP BUT VERY DIFFICULT TO PUT TOGETHER
