  • I hesitated but glad I finally got this for my home office
Style: ScreenBar w/ Dial
As I've gotten older, I can't use my monitor in a dim or unlit room as I used to. Fresh out of college that was my preferred environment for writing software. However, in my retirement years I suffer from eye strain and fatigue under the conditions in which I used to thrive. Unfortunately, many of the desk lamps I have used cast too much glare on the monitor (both the glossy and the matte finish types). I had heard about the BenQ bar light from former coworkers, but I hesitated because of the price and where to place my Logitech Brio webcam. I didn't want to place either the light or the camera off center. Luckily, it turns out that the webcam sits securely right on top of the BenQ mounting bracket (see attached photo). It's secure enough that I have not had to add an adhesive strip under normal conditions (which includes raising/lowering my sit/stand desk as well as adjusting the monitor arm height/swivel). If I jostle my monitor hard enough, it will dislodge the webcam but it would be an unusual thing to happen in my home office (and some double-backed foam tape would easily address it). The light is reasonably bright for seeing my work area and remains glare-free even at the highest setting. The LED strip is deeply recessed so at most reasonable positions you will not be looking directly at the LEDs. The LEDs consist of an array of alternating cool and warm color temperature units and the dial control smoothly adjusts the overall temperature of the overall light. As another reviewer mentioned, it might be nice to be able to dim the light a bit further, but given my weakening eyesight it's doubtful I'd actually use a lower setting. The auto setting picks a the brightness level for you, but three issues to be aware of. First, the auto setting will override your color temperature setting. You can set the color again after auto setting picks the brightness. Second, the auto setting sets the brightness only once each time you press the auto button. Auto mode does not continuously sample the ambient light and adjust the brightness accordingly. If lighting conditions change, you may have to press the button again. Third and finally, if you turn the lamp off while the Auto setting is active, the lamp will remember that and initiate Auto mode again when you switch it back on. That has the side effect of causing the lamp to dim and brighten as the lamp samples the ambient light and adjusts it's output. The first time I did that I thought the lamp was defective! Personally, I find it annoying to have the lamp go through that cycle each time I turn it on, so I avoid the Auto setting. ... show more

  • No Qualms, Happy Customer!
Style: ScreenBar w/ Dial
I've never tried any other light bar before, but I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever for this one. It's pretty simple and straightforward to set up. The unboxing experience even felt premium. I do wish the USB cord was a bit longer; however, the length is fine for most set ups, and you can just use an outlet adapter if you can't get it to reach your computer tower or you are out of USB outlets on it. ... show more

  • Easy Set Up/No Glare/Easy to Use
Style: ScreenBar w/ Dial
Seems to be a well made item...looks nice on my desk...installed easily on my monitor...and the rotary knob and features were easy to figure out. Lights my desk area and does NOT cast a glare on the screen. Nice item!

  • Surprisingly bright and even light, but one major area for improvement.
Style: ScreenBar
This is a bright little lamp, and I like bright light. I let it run on auto, and it always seems to be the exact amount of light. The quality of the light is also excellent, and colors under this light look great. It doesn't get overly hot. I did find though my monitor fits the requirements perfectly that I had to use a little bit of blue-tac (aka museum putty) to keep it in place. No big deal. My only gripe is that if you have your monitor at at ergonomic height, you have to decide between rotating the light forward and having it glare in your eyes, or rotating it far back to the maximum, which will glare at the top of the monitor. Note: This will be fine if your monitor is really low. But with the top of your monitor being eye level, you will be staring into this light. BenQ could easily fix it by making the front of the plastic housing just a little bit longer. Ultimately, I decided to tilt it toward my monitor. It does glare off the bezel, but that's preferable to in the eyes. Additionally you will get some glare and light leakage at the ends as the reflector in the end caps extends to the bottom. I will likely put some matte black paint in that area to stop the glare. With consideration to the overall good quality of the item and excellent light, I would still recommend this item. It has gone a long way to reduce the amount of eye strain I get - especially in low light situations. ... show more

  • Perfect
Style: ScreenBar
I have been using this light for about six months and it never fails to impress. It can be adjusted such that the light beam hits just the right spot on my keyboard. The controls are easy to access. I might buy another for my wife's desktop computer in another room in the house.

  • Expensive but very nice
Style: ScreenBar w/ Dial
Love this light at. I use it with my two monitors by positioning it in the middle. Throws of plenty of light on my desk. No glare on the monitors or in my eyes. Expensive yes, but is built well and works well.

  • Good light. Be careful of the power source.
Style: ScreenBar
UPDATE: I replaced the wall power adapter, and the touch controls function well again. I like this light for several reasons, but with one major drawback. First, the bad. The touch sensitive controls are a nice feature, but they have stopped working for the most part. When I first got the device, the controls worked well and made sense. I like adjusting it for a fairly dim amber light, which provides enough brightness to see items on my desk without adding glare. However, the buttons are almost non-functional now. Something is not right. I have to touch them numerous times to get them to respond. It's pretty frustrating when all you want to do is get the thing to turn on. Aside from that, everything else is great. It's a nice design with a weighted counterbalance that keeps it snug and stable on top of the monitor. The USB power is great. I power it from a wall outlet, but you could power it directly from a PC. The design is unobtrusive, and it doesn't add a lot of weight to the monitor, which is nice since I have that monitor mounted on an adjustable arm. If not for the issue with the buttons, I would rate it a strong 5. I rate it a 1 for ease of use only because the buttons started becoming finicky after about a year of gentle use. The buttons are logical and easy to understand; it's just that they are hard to use when they stop responding to touch. ... show more
