  • A company that works for you!
Style: 5,500-Watt Dual Fuel
I ordered this product, unaware that it had no manual pull cord for manual starting, and that apparently it was not returnable... Once I explained I had never seen a home generator that did not have a manual pull cord, they agreed to allow me to return the product and they paid for the shipping as well! I will be purchasing my next home generator from this company and refer them to all of my family and friends who are preparing for this Florida hurricane season! Thank you for you support! Well with tax and all my 5500 watts generator cost me $189.00 and was Well worth the price for this machine. I will definitely be buying more products from this seller. Also, the delivery time was early. Thanks again for a great product.

  • Good Basic Generator, propane is a major benifit
Style: 5,500-Watt Dual Fuel
Bought this 5,500w generator as backup for home, where power loss is becoming more frequent. We have two refrigerators. This product was slightly lower in price, probably a 1 yr old design. Primary selling point is reliability of start and fuel. I will only use propane! Slightly higher in price but available everywhere and is not susceptible to deposits; like gasoline. I am still breaking in, I give it 30 minutes each month, and gives you familarity with setting up. You need a major extension cord (120/240,30amps, $65) that will reach into house, then use other 20 amp extensions to fan out. We live in Texas, this is not intended to carry a cooling load but it will provide heat (gas system), 2 refrigerators, a microwave and minor lights. A 20lb cylinder is good for 8 hrs, have more than one, but it is same as your grill, infra-heater, etc. DuroStar gives good service. ... show more

  • starting it is a job. it came with a bad battery, could not take a charge
Style: 5,500-Watt Dual Fuel
I bought this because I became disabled and when the power goes out it is a problem for me. I sold my old generator because I could not pull start, so I thought the electric start would be great, the battery was dead when it arrived and the directions for setup was not good. I got my brother to help me and when you get it running it seems to do ok. but today when the lights went out ,,, the battery was dead so it does not hold charge and I could not get it started by pulling whe pull string because I can not pull hard enough, so there I was without lights and in a fix with my medical equipment. so not happy about that. I am not sure what to do about starting it when I don't have help. but if you want it for the electric start and you can not pull hard enough to start with the pull start this one is an issue. after started (by my brother after my lights were back on) it seems to run fine. ... show more

  • All Generators Should Be Like This (Except For The Grounding)
Style: 5,500-Watt Dual Fuel
Every generator manual says to start the engine before applying a load and to remove the load before stopping the engine. DuroStar (DuroMax) generators actually give you a switch to do just that. Otherwise I would have to go to my basement to make sure the transfer switch was off and go outside to start the generator. Then go back to the basement to turn the transfer switch on. When it comes time to shut down I would have to go to the basement again to turn the transfer switch off then outside to stop the generator. It would be the same for an RV or boat docking situation. Trying to do this by unplugging and then plugging in the power cord is not a good idea either, because arcing will damage the connectors. This is a well designed generator overall. The 12V battery charging output is a nice touch and I have even come to prefer the analog meter because it indicates voltage stability in a graphic way. My only gripe is with the grounding scheme. I understand that small generators do not tie the neutral wire to the frame (ground) because this is often done at the RV transfer switch. This generator does not tie neutral to frame. You will therefore have no protection from the GFCI receptacle that is provided! If you are connecting this generator to a home, RV, or boat then make sure that your transfer switch ties neutral to ground. If you are only plugging into the GFCI outlet then make sure to use a grounding adapter. This adapter can easily be made with the 4-prong twist-lock plug that comes with the generator. (Do not use the 3-prong straight plug as this will trip the GFCI.) Just install a wire between the neutral (W) terminal and the ground (G) terminal and leave this plugged into the generator at all times. ... show more

  • Color me happy so far
Style: 5,500-Watt Dual Fuel
I'm going with 4 stars because I've only set it up and tested it with a fan - no way to know about longevity at this point. Once wheels and handles on rest of prep work simple and the electric start worked instantly. Hopefully I can update the review once we hook up bigger appliances, etc. This was a big purcha$e, relieved that SO FAR it's been a good experience. Delivery men polite - could have been more professional. The driver wouldn't come down unpaved portion to house which was fine, but dropped the box onto the dolly - instead of getting the other person with him helping to get it loaded on the dolly properly. Don't see obvious damage at this point. ... show more
