  • The best PC I've ever owned, with one minor complaint
Style: i7-9750H | 1TB SSD | RTX 2080
My Asus ROG g750jh was showing its age. After I bought that computer, which was extremely awesome for its time, I knew I could only stick with Asus computers. They're extremely good quality, hardy, and powerful. Now, my g750jh was uh.. a desktop replacer that weighed like fifteen pounds, so it was anything but portable. Six years later, while it was still running strong I had the money to get something else, so I did. I got this guy. I had been eyeing the ROG Zephyrus GX701 for a while now. The price made me cringe, but when I saw the black friday sale I hopped right on it. I now had the computer for a few days, and here's my verdict: For gaming, as well as standard everyday use, this thing is insanely powerful. Frankly, having access to such power in a PC is a little scary. For reference, in the simplest terms: I can run Minecraft with Ultra Shaders and x512 texture packs and it just doesn't hecking care. Still runs at like, 30-50 fps, depending on where I'm at. Now, I don't really play minecraft but I really wanted to see how far I could push the graphics card, and I was not disappointed. This thing is insanely fast. From shutdown to startup, it wakes up in less than 3 seconds. The size of this guy is nice, too. Yeah, it's a 17 inch laptop, but it's crazy thin and it feels super compact. I can sit down on the couch with it in my lap or fly with it and not worry about it being too heavy or cumbersome. The battery life is excellent, too. Lasts about four hours with my current settings, give or take. I haven't tried gaming without it being plugged in, though. This is a nice computer. The power of this thing, the compact nature of it, the DISPLAY (Oh god the display is amazing), and the little quirks like the volume nob are awesome. The one little complaint I have, though, is that this computer only has one headset jack - not a separate audio and headphone jack. I know this is a modern computer so I should expect it to be compact and all, but it forced me to have to buy a USB headset so I could actually talk to my friends. Not to say the computer doesn't come with its own microphone, but I'd rather not have to have my friends worry about the train going by a couple of blocks over. Still, I guess it makes sense for me to have to upgrade my headset into the 21st century, but I'm going to miss my old one since it obviously wasn't broken. All in all, awesome computer. ... show more

  • A Transportable Gaming System
Style: i7-8750H | 1TB SSD | RTX 2080
My Zephyrus GX701 system came from Mobile Advance with a 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD with 16 GB RAM. RTX2080 MaxQ with 144hz of sweet G-Sync. Arrived on time as stated by the 2day shipping guaranteed. Unit is packaged by Asus with WINDOWS 10 PRO and its external 1080p webcam in box – Micro-USB Display – 17+” of Smooth 144hz refresh rate. Back lid made of aluminum, really thin plastic bezels with a 1” chin filled with NVIDIA’s stickers on the left. FINGERPRINT MAGNET Cooling vs Typing for GAMERS – I personally prefer the front keyboard layout rather than the traditional laptop ergonomics, as the purpose of the machine is extreme gaming with the able to quickly TRANSPORT. The perforated top was warm while gaming but did its job in keeping things cool. Asus aura RGB keyboard looks wonderful, although the software is lacking in customization and compatibility with other RGB devices. Chassis RGB lights can be optionally turned off as well. Keyboard feels good for typing, yet again – extreme gaming, I use both usb 3.0 interfaces on the right with another keyboard. Track\Num pad (FINGERPRINT MAGNET too) took a short time for me to get acquainted with using it to navigate Windows Pro. Noise – The Zephyrus uses the CPU fan mainly, while doing little tasks. Making the Zephyrus sounds and looks like any other Zen design ASUS. However, the two GPU fans kicks in when a game loads up and this thing comes alive. In comparison, this Zephyrus is much quieter than “classical” gaming laptops of early 2017. Interface – Lacking Thunderbolt and RJ45 port. At least there are two u.s.b gen-1 and one u.s.b gen-2. Speakers – There laptop speaker. Battery – Power brick is 19.5v barrel plug. 3.2 A . Supports USB PD. Disabling the Geforce and using the intel graphics, I could use the Zephyrus to watch YOUTUBE for a bit over 3 hours. However, with GeForce enabled the battery life from a full charge was less than 45 mins of G-SYNC, surfing the web. GAMING –On this 17” (1920 X 1080) METRO EXODUS played butter smooth with all settings maxed out, including the dreaded FPS killer DLSS and RTX. ANTHEM ( work in progress) runs uninterrupted maxed out graphics settings too, for now. ... show more

  • Not as sturdy as other laptops
Style: i7-9750H | 1TB SSD | RTX 2080
Looked for months and finally decided on this laptop. Just to answer clarify some stuff for people, the XB78 version which comes with 32 GB ram and 2080 does not have GSYNC. the monitor still runs at 144hz max but no gsync. I was able to run oculus rift on maxed out settings with no lag. Counter strike for some reason would only run at 120-130FPS so not sure what’s going on there. The screen is fine but not as good as a dedicated gaming monitor that’s IPS. colors are worse than my ACER 1440 IPS 144hz monitor. The laptop runs extremely hot during gaming. Good thing they put the keyboard towards you vs conventional location. It burns you to touch. Not sure if that’s normal but I wasn’t able to touch the areas above the keyboard and this is just with counter strike. I find the laptop slower than my wife’s 2015 MacBook Pro despite having a more updated CPU. Other than that, laptop is great. The laptop was nicely secured in the box. Other things that might be worrisome is that the ports on the side of laptop isn’t a continuous metal chassis/case. There’s a piece of plastic that guides the ports(usb, usb c, etc) in. If you’re unplugging/plugging a lot, might break the piece of plastic. It is definitely not as tough/sturdy as a MacBook Pro. The laptop fees like if you drop it once, it’s over. I suggest people try the laptop first before pulling the plug. ... show more
