Description

Creativity. Style. Innovation. These are the qualities that define the elegant new ZenBook 14. Everything in this super-compact masterpiece is designed to give you the freedom to discover your creative vision, including the stunning slim-bezel NanoEdge display with its 86% screen-to-body ratio. You’ll appreciate not only the tremendous power within and the thoughtful attention to detail — such as the exclusive ErgoLift hinge— but also the timeless beauty of the design, with its sophisticated Utopia Blue finish enhanced by the stylish silver trim panel. ZenBook 14 meets the ultra-demanding MIL-STD-810G military standard for reliability and durability, undergoing a punishing test regime that includes extended tests for operation in harsh environments including extreme altitudes, temperatures and humidity. To create the astounding quad-speaker sound system in ZenBook 14, the ASUS Golden Ear team worked with renowned home and automotive audio experts Harmon Kardon. Two bass speakers and two high-frequency speakers deliver smooth, clear and powerful full-range sound, while smart amplifier technology prevents distortion and speaker damage at high volumes. Together with ASUS SonicMaster technology — a combination of hardware and software fine-tuning — the results are truly astonishing.

  • dual boot linux and windows - 5/27/2019
I bought this laptop because it seems to pack a lot of bang for the buck as far as processing power as replacement for a 10 year old macbook. I wanted a laptop that could handle the smaller data processing jobs before transferring to a larger computer. But I also use it for fun like listening to music, streaming videos, and light gaming. hardware likes I read reviews of the older zenbook 433 that said the speakers stunk, the screen was dim, and the trackpad felt loose. Asus fixed all these problems! The screen is bright(!) with sharp resolution, and the speakers are VERY LOUD. I usually just play music between 2-10% but you can crank this puppy up if you wanna listen in the shower. The trackpad feels fine, no complaints. The processing power is a good bang for the buck with an intel 8th gen i7, not bad for under $1G. I expect it'll be out of date in 2 years but yeah, what chu gonna do? The general feel of the laptop is sturdy and the aluminum finish is a nice find for a laptop under $1G. hardware cons Be aware, the UX431-FN model series DOES NOT COME WITH THE LIGHT UP NUMBERPAD ON THE TRACKPAD. A slight bummer (I tried it out in a store, it's not a gimmick, i would have used it, so jealous) but if you want that you can wait for the UX-431FN series to come out and pay mas dinero (written 5/27/19). The keyboard has a wee bit of 'give'. Coming from a macbook (which has zero) this might bug some people. Hasn't bothered me yet, but thought it is worth mentioning. If you're a gamer, this computer does not come with a dedicated graphics processor (GPU) so take that into account if a high performance gaming machine is what you're after. That being said, I've tried a couple slightly-older fast-paced online zombie first person shooters (left for dead 2 and Killing floor 2) without any problem. One more tiny thing, there's no play/pause button on the keyboard which I am quite used to on my old macbook. Slight bummer BUT on windows 10 you can adjust trackpad settings to play/pause/volume control with 3 or 4 fingers. So that's ok wik me. UPDATE 05/2020 the speakers no longer seem as loud as when I wrote the original review, I'm not sure if it has to do with speaker quality or what, I've never experienced that before. But it's still as loud as I could ask for. I still think this was a great bang for the buck laptop a year later. ... show more

  • Sleek, fast, and seemless. Classy design inside and out.
I've had the zenbook for 2 weeks now. It was worth the little extra money. But perhaps it did cost a little too much because it doesn't include rotation or touch screen (hence the 4 stars). However, as asus has boasted, the screen is truly great. It says 14 inch, but it is, I believe a 13'3-ish in physical size. The actual screen goes closer to the edge than most laptops. And the keyboard tilts up, for which I suspect is because it runs a little hard sometimes, it can be loud and maybe gets hot so the tilt helps that--though they say it tilts because of their ergonomic design. Either way, the keyboard tilting and the soft touch keys make it seemless when typing. Feels good. I truly love the design, weight, shape, and speed of the laptop. I almost didn't purchase because it was not touchscreen nor did it rotate, but I remember how often I used my last touchscreen, maybe once. Certain people need the touchscreen laptop, but not if they use the laptop as a work station. One issue might be with asus in general, the windows explorer, your folders, defaults to the my documents under the onedrive, which I'm not sure if you can change. The laptop holds a bit of gigs, but they charge you monthly for onedrive cloud storage beyond, I believe, 5 gigs, which is a little annoying. So far, I put on a lot of statistical software, and it has run decently with large datasets, they're not slowing it down. Running multiple browser tabs at once doesn't slow it down either (though it sometimes starts to run harder and louder for a short time.) Overall, I did a lot of research and reading reviews about this laptop, and for the most part it meets my expectations. Love it. ... show more

  • Saved the day
My old macbook pro was giving up on me and it gave me so many problems in the past. I decided to switch to windows. I really like my Zenbook. It's sleek, shiny, pleasing to the eye. I really like how much lighter it is than my old computer. When i first opened it, I was shocked to see how far computers have gone in terms of size. It has a decent battery life. Not the best, but definitely not the worst. The computer is fast and has a lot of memory. The sound quality is good, but I believe that some of the speakers are at the bottom of the computer. This is good for desk work since the laptop props itself up so not the entire bottom is on the desk. This allows the sound to bounce back at you. This does not work as well when your sitting on your bed sadly. The sound is still good despite that. This computer is definitely good for work as I am a grad student in engineering. I think what sold me the most was the price. The biggest issue I have is sometimes the trackpad is not as responsive Overall, I am very happy with my purchase ... show more

  • Good laptopr for the $$ (Loose trackpad, no number pad)
EDIT: Trackpad issue: the first laptop I received the trackpad was terribly loose so I returned it thinking something was broken. Ordered another one and had the same issue, but not nearly as bad. Instead of returning it I opened the back up, removed the battery and stuck a folded piece of paper in between the trackpad its springs, problem solved. The fact that I had pisses me off but it was a 5 minute fix that I shouldn't have had to address in the first place. This issue is not only an Asus issue but a host of other manufacturer's, google loose trackpad. Overall, this is a beautiful laptop that is priced perfectly and checks all of my boxes. Oh, and don't believe what that Asus representative says in the comments about the number pad being there on the trackpad, it is not. I repeat, THERE IS NO NUMBERPAD! I really don't care though, seems gimmicky and not sure I would use it all that often. ORIGINAL POST: Just received my Asus today. Love this little laptop for the very short time I've had it, but the trackpad is loose, makes a noticeable noise whenever it slightly press it. Returning and getting a new one, hopefully no issues with that one. Oh, and where is the number pad??? ... show more
