    • Good Quality Awning - VERY bad instructions
My deck gets very hot in the summer time, so, for years, I thought about an awning. When I saw all of the options for the Aleko Motorized awning, I was sold. I selected a 10' x 8' motorized awning in Gray. It arrived faster than expected and in perfect condition. All of the parts were there and perfectly packaged. Prior to purchasing, I read the reviews which mentioned that the instructions were bad. I didn't pay much attention to it. BUT those comments were accurate. First, there was NO INSTRUCTION MANUAL, in the box. I got mine by calling Aleko support who gave me a link to a PDF Manual. They also told me to watch the online installation videos. Quite frankly, neither helped. I'm an experienced do-it-yourselfer (thankfully), but I found the manual and the videos really lacking. I assembled and mounted the unit and, as soon as it was up and I started to deploy and retract it, I knew it was wrong. I had to take it down, fix the assembly and re-hang it. It was frustrating. That said, now that it's installed and working properly, I am very pleased with the quality and functionality. I think the material used for the awning will last a long time (and, with what I know now, I think it will be easy to replace it, if it's ever necessary. So, overall, I'm pleased with the purchase. If they'd spend just a little time fixing the instructions and create some clear videos, this could easily get to 4 or 5 stars. ... show more

I purchased a 16 x 10 foot motorized awning. I received my product on time and well packed. I assembled the awning myself in about 3 hours. Read the instructions completely first made for a good understanding of what was involved. I made my own roof mounts so I could have extra height for my install, even with needing to come up with a idea, I was able to run out to local hardware store, pickup everything I needed for my installation, get home build my mounts and install everything in about 6 hours , start to finish. Honestly, I almost didn’t purchase after reading the reviews, but I am so glad I did. I can only believe that the negative reviews are from people that did not take the time to read and understand instructions. They where pretty spot on. Great product for the money.     • Hard to put together. Otherwise great
The awning works great with the optional wind and light sensor. So when the sun comes up the awning opens. Clouds? It closes. Storm it closes. Then sunshine- opens again. My only fault is in the instructions They are hard to follow but it’s a great product

I give 3 stars because it works and grandma is happy. However, installing it was far more difficult than it should have been because of the instructions and required a trip to the hardware store. 1. The roller tube, front bar and torsion bars went together fine as did attaching the awning to the roller and front bar. However, it says roll it counterclockwise, which would be different depending on how you hold it/where you are standing. Roll it so the fabric will unwind from above/top of the roller. 2. It comes with bolts to attach to brick or concrete. It seems very unlikely that a majority of people installing this awning are doing so into those materials. I had to go to the store and purchase lag bolts to install into wood siding. Many of the other comments address this issue as well. 3. Included in the kit is a roller assembly bracket-a "c" shaped bracket with rollers attached. It supports the middle of the roller. There is no mention of this in the included instructions. It has a crappy little illustration on the wrapper that is supposed to show you had to mount it. I assure you, I installed it wrong at least three times. Additionally, the bracket shown in the videos on youtube are different. It must be installed with you put the frame together. 4. The instructions say to mount your 3 brackets and then install the awning to the brackets. This is impossible. The roller bar with the awning does not allow enough movement to drop the bolt in from above and if you put it in from below the bolt will touch the awning material, eventually wearing a hole in the material. I had to remove the roller assembly, attach the frame to the brackets and reattach the roller assembly (including re-attaching the torsion bars). 5. The torsion bars came damaged (bent, paint chipped) but were still operational. Inspect your package before starting in case yours would not work. 6. The electric motor works great but again, not part of the main instructions. The adjustments for it were fine. The remote did not operate as indicated in the video; I advise removing the battery and reinserting it-that seemed to do the trick and allowed it to be programmed. ... show more

The instructions are so so, but once it’s together it’s great. Takes 2 people to lift it up, adjust it here and there once up. Other than that, it’s perfect. I broke a part and they shipped me another free of charge in a few days.

Wasn’t sure about this when it was first put up but now I absolutely love it & have been using it like crazy. Don’t be fooled with the coverage as it all depends on the direction of the sun but it does gives great coverage. Measurements are 12x10 but is really 11 1/2 x 9 1/2. So if you want a little extra coverage, go up a size. ... show more
