  • Great TV but Unimpressive Service and Peripherals
Size: 75 Inch
There are multiple components to this rating: The TV, the items that were included in the package, Amazon as a 3rd party service, the added professional installation that we included with the order, and my overall recommendation. (TOO LONG, DIDN'T READ SUMMARY AT THE END) LG 75SM86 NANOCELL TV: The TV is AMAZING! I am really impressed with the TV itelf, the color and motion are superb. It looks and feels like the 4K OLED that LG also makes which is quite a bit more expensive. I would recommend this TV to anyone. The TV processer upgrades non-4K shows and movies to 4K. The one weird thing is that sometimes the old movies look TOO real. Overall, this is a really impressive TV and deserves 5 stars. ADDED ITEMS IN PACKAGE: 1) Wall Mount 2) Sound Bar 3) Surge Protector 4) Mini Keyboard Remote 1) This is where things start to go downhill. The TV is around 90-95 lbs, yet the supplied wall mount is only rated to 77 lbs!! What in the world were they thinking? For the size of this TV, the wall mount is entirely insufficient, and the installation technician just laughed and shook his head when he saw the thing. There is no room to adjust your TV on the wall, depending on where your wall studs are, you are really limited and may find that the TV has to be mounted completely off center of where you were intending. And you NEED to install this into the wall studs, this is not like hanging a picture where you can use some dry wall plugs. 2) Sound Bar doesn't even really connect to the TV. This TV doesn't have RCA component connections, and the sound bar doesn't have HDMI connection. You would have to use the optical line, which is short and uninspiring when connecting what is supposed to be a better listening experience. 3) The surge protector is a 6 outlet with 2 USB ports that plugs into a standard AC wall plate in the US. This might not apply to everyone, but in my home there is an AC outlet on the wall, intended to sit behind the TV so the cords are out of the way. Well, with the included wall mount, that would be impossible, it simply would not provide enough space between the TV and surge protector. The 6 plugs and the USB's are all coming off the front of the unit, so you will need extra space for the cords that you plug into this. It is a nice 6 plug surge protector itself though. 4) The mini-keyboard remote seems like a cool little gadget. I haven't really used it yet, but it seems like it could be a cool tool. But the LG television remote is equally nice, and has a really interesting infrared pointer, you don't really need the mini-keyboard. Also, if you are using any TV service like xFinity, DISH, DirectTV, etc, their remotes cover everything anyway. I might use it for my computer or something else. AMAZON SERVICE AS A 3RD PARTY: This package is purchased through another company called Beach Camera. My issue with this is that Beach Camera shipped the TV via a Freight supplier called Team Worldwide. The problem with this is that Amazon didn't send our customer phone numbers to Beach Camera, so Team Worldwide couldn't contact us. The peripheral items showed up on my doorstep (they were shipped FedEx I think) and Amazon shows my item as "Delivered." Sure, but where is my TV? I had to call Beach Camera directly cause Amazon just shows that the item is delivered, so they removed themselves from the process. Beach Camera customer service was actually really helpful and understood the issue right away, they took my phone number and sent it to Team Worldwide right away. Team Worldwide was able to deliver the item the following day, apparently the TV was just sitting in their warehouse here in my city. Amazon should have done a better job of figuring out the shipping methods and sent the required information, which in this case includes a customer phone contact number and not just the address. PROFESSIONAL TV INSTALLATION: This is the $99 additional charge that you can purchase with a TV like this through Amazon. First off, the installation technician was nice, friendly, and informative and really helped me out a lot. But he couldn't install the TV. I have never hung a TV of this size on a wall, and so I was more comfortable getting someone to professionally do it. He was discouraged at the tiny wall mount provided and wasn't comfortable installing that one, not only because it was too lightweight, but also because of the placement of the studs in the wall, the TV would have been way off center. He did try to sell me one of their own sliding wall mounts, but it was upcharged and I declined. He called their customer support line and tried to get something to fix the issue for me, but wasn't able to. And their customer support said the next install date would be something like 2 weeks out. So I just had them cancel the whole thing, we called Amazon and they don't charge the install until it is complete, so they removed that from the order. What I didn't understand was why they would send 1 installation technician to install a TV of this size???? I was willing and able to help out if needed, but it just doesn't make much sense to send 1 technician to an obvious 2 person job. Also awkward, they outsourced the installation to DISH network technicians in my area, and we had just cancelled DISH to go with xFinity. :-) MY FIX AND RECOMMENDATIONS: For the package add-on items we have 2 other older LCD TV's that are smaller than this one, so I used the wall mount for one of them, and added the sound bar to the other. The inluded wall mount is fine for a smaller LCD/LED TV around 32-48" and maybe a bit larger, but I wouldn't go too high for that thing. The sound bar was added to a separate TV, and can be wall mounted. For the main TV, just go to Home Depot, I found a full motion wall mount that you can extend, rotate and tilt for around $70, and it holds a TV up to 120 lbs. You can feel the difference in the two mounts just by picking them up. Just have a friend come over and help because you need 2 people to hang this TV, it is that big. The surge protector is fine, but if your AC plug is behind the TV you will need an extending wall mount or bolt some boards ( like a 2x4) into your wall studs and mount your wall mount onto that to extend it out a bit, enough so you can plug your power cords in. TL;DR, OVERALL SUMMARY: Buy it for the TV and you won't be disappointed, cause at this price it is worth it for the TV alone. They basically just throw in some extra gadgets for your other TV's for free, this TV alone goes for $200 more usually and the included items are basically useless on this TV. Expect to get a separate wall mount and sound bar (if you want or need one). Go to Home Depot for a good full motion extending wall mount that will cost less than the pro installation fee. Invite a friend over and you can install this thing in about 2 hours if you have a stud finder, drill, ratchet wrench, level and screwdriver. (Saves you from having to hold a 4 hour window for the installation people to show up) ... show more

  • Very Good TV For The Price
This TV has all the features and I really think that the LG OLED televisions have the better quality picture of course, however, this TV really shows its worth when watching 4k content, esp. using an Amazon FireTV Stick 4K -- Now that really makes this 65" TV pop! Though it would be noteworthy to "buy the Amazon 4K Stick for this TV," due to the fact that standard quality content will stream/display a rather poor picture quality w/out the 4K Stick, unless you are watching 4K content. The primary reason I actually chose to purchase this TV set over an OLED LG TV was, simply because I don't want to have to deal with screen burn, which has been a very challenging drawback OLED TVs have. I must say that I am quite amazed by the fact that after 6 months of having this TV -- whereas, I leave this TV on pretty much 24/7, even if I'm not at home -- there has been absolutely NO screen burn whatsoever! As we all know, time-to-time, apps have a tendency to freeze -- either from a quirky Internet connection that is on the wack or just some type of incompatibly issues with streaming -- and I "always" fall asleep leaving the TV on, awakening to a frozen screen at times; but, this TV has proven that screen burn is not one of its weaknesses; The screen quality looks just as excellent as it did the day that I bought it, with absolutely no afterimages! The sound is fairly good; the quality of sound is actually slightly better than what my sound bar gives off. But then again, I don't have the greatest sound bar in the world(lol), albeit I'm content with this TVs sound and quality. Actually, I am quite pleased with my purchase of this television, esp, considering the price point. However, I must say that I cannot rate this television more than 4 stars, simply because it does not perform well in a brightly lit space; I find myself having to close all the blinds where this TV is situated, because daylight casts a reflection on my TV and makes it extremely difficult to watch! -- If you enlarge the 3rd photo I have attached to this review, you will be able to clearly see the reflection of daylight coming through the sides of my blinds on the screen itself, even though the blinds are closed. In all, I am still proud of my purchase and am looking forward to enjoying this TV for years to come! 👍👍👍👍 ... show more

  • Good Value but must have 4k content to appreciate.
I bought this set to replace a 14 year-old 37 inch LCD TV in the bedroom and I quite happy with it. Originally planned on getting a 55 inch TCL since it was about 200 dollars cheaper but was concerned about the quality control on that set. Once I hooked this set up I immediately noticed that my DirecTv 1080p content looked very soft. I think this has more to do with the compression of the signal from DirecTv but it was very noticeable. Kind of when hooking up an HDTV set back in the day and playing SD programming on it. But once I got my Netflix and Amazon Video 4k programming to display on the set, things looked great. The 4k is excellent. The interface is WebOS and it is a perfectly fine OS but one annoying thing is the set has a cursor that is controlled by the remote. If you press the direction button on the remote the cursor goes away and you select icons via the direction pad. The problem with this is if you were to move the remote, the cursor appears onscreen again. A little annoying especially if you were just trying to change volume. I'm sure there is a way to turn this off but the set does not come with a user manual. Overall, I am happy with the set and for the price it falls between the lower tier sets and the premium OLEDS. ... show more
