The media could not be loaded. It’s tough not to plop down a knee-jerk 5-Star review after being in the presence of the 82 inch version of this television. Its size alone commands your attention, and when you factor in the picture quality (when it’s working), well it’s almost a done deal…EXCEPT for the fact that after having two of these behemoths delivered to my doorstep, I STILL don’t have one that’s working, hence the 2-Star rating: 1 out of 5 because of the poor product quality, with an extra star for the potentially beautiful picture if I ever get a set that works. <Deep breath… > OK…lemme explain. After finally convincing myself to spend north of $3700 (with tax) for the 82 inch version of the Samsung Q70, I experienced not one, but TWO out of the box failures! It’s pretty incomprehensible to me how a global technology company like Samsung can produce defective products right from the factory…what, are we in the 60’s? Oh wait, I forgot about those Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy Fold phone debacles. Maybe Samsung has a tad too many irons in the fire and is stretched a little thin in the Product Testing Department. Let’s start with the first TV… TV #1: take a close look at the photograph with the red circle; that circle is highlighting a perpetual ‘dark zone’ on the screen that never brightens. The flaw is most obvious on a monochromatic scene, such as sky or fog or snow-covered terrain and sadly, once you see it, you can’t ‘unsee’ it…it’s always there. I can only assume this is a failure of one of the Local Dimming Areas that this model touts as a feature. (NOTE: I took the photo using an ‘Ambient Mode’ screen saver setting to provide a consistent background) After a call to Amazon to arrange a replacement, it was back in the box to be returned. (SIDEBAR: Amazon has been nothing short of amazing throughout this whole ordeal, arranging simultaneous pickups of the bad units and delivery of the replacements. 10-Stars to Amazon Customer Service) Now to the second TV… TV #2: The first thing I did when the replacement TV arrived was to set it to the same monochromatic ‘Ambient Mode’ screen setting I used on the first TV to check for ‘dark zones’…YAY!!!! no dark zones! But wait a sec, what’s that flickering <sigh/groan>??? Every 1 to 3 minutes, there’d be a very fast (less than a second), but very noticeable ‘blip’ on the right side of the screen (I made a Slo-Mo video of the defect, along with a pic of some frame-captures to give you an idea of what I’m talking about…they’re pretty self-explanatory). Once you notice ‘the blip’, you’re just sitting there WAITING for it to happen again, and waiting for that ‘blip’ to show itself completely sucks the enjoyment out of whatever entertainment you might be watching. Further experimentation showed that ‘the blip’ would occur regardless of source: BluRay disc, Streaming, built-in screen savers etc. I tried to update the firmware (not needed) and run the self-diagnostic to no avail. So once again, I’m forced to conclude it’s another hardware failure. For those who think these glitches is nit-picking, did I mention this TV cost $3700? I’m not a videophile complaining about seeing only 999-million of the claimed 1-billion colors this thing can produce. I’m talking about very noticeable picture quality faults that, in my opinion, are inexcusable for a television in this class. And don’t peg me as a Samsung-basher…I also own a 65-inch non-QLED Samsung TV and there’s never been a problem with that one…maybe Samsung just can’t build really big screens dependably. I should just quit now and get my money back, but Amazon is willing to do the swap and replace one last time (again, HUGE KUDOS to Amazon Customer Service); we’ll see what happens with the third TV. Even if it works flawlessly, I can’t see me bumping the Star rating of the review…this kinda stuff just shouldn’t happen on a $3700 TV. But I can certainly see myself going to 1-Star if I get another lemon…stay tuned. ... show more

I recently purchased the Samsung 65- inch QLED Q70R Smart TV. This is my first smart television and I just can’t stop raving about it! When it was delivered, I couldn’t believe how simple the installation instructions were, especially with only 2 cords to plug in. Set up was easy and straightforward- I didn’t even need to open the manual. Adjustments were obvious, and it was fun to play around with it to find the perfect settings. And I love the slim-line design, no more bulky, heavy tv. But what excites me the most is the vibrant picture with absolute brilliant color. The upgrade is so noticeable in comparison to my old set. To get a true sense of this, I turn it to ambient settings while not watching programs- it’s almost like having a piece of art in my living room! I also love the different sound settings- it truly is crystal clear. I was also pleasantly surprised how easy it was to navigate the smart tv features, as I couldn’t wait to start using my Amazon prime tv subscription. Once again, I didn’t even need to refer to the manual, as the button was right on the remote. Steps are straightforward, saving me both time and frustration. I also appreciate the convenience of using my iPhone as a remote. It’s obvious that Samsung did their research, as this product blew away my expectations- from specifications to ease of use. Overall, I’m so thrilled with my tv and can’t wait to discover new features. Hands down, Samsung nailed it and I am one happy customer! ... show more

Tv is great. One thing to make note of is if you are planning to mount this tv it calls for a m8-1.25 43-45MM screw. This did not come in the amazon mount box. I’ve hung a lot of tvs so don’t count on it coming with your mount. I purchased mine at Home Depot for $4. Picture of actual screw is above. Per my research the actual length is 43MM and Samsung/amazon sells the screw. 45MM works with a space cap if you’re in a bind. ... show more

Researched for a long time. Glad I did not buy a 2018 tv. The 2019 Q70 is full backlit where the 2018 Q7 was not. Very sharp picture. It is a step up from the Q60. I couldn't tell a difference between the 70, 80, and 90. I had a Samsung 52" LED tv before this one. It had a great picture but nothing like this one. Everyone prices this TV at around 2999.00 Costco and Sams advertise this TV with a 5 year manufacturers warranty. I called Samsung and they said this is not true. It has a 1 year manufacturers warranty. Amazon had the best extended warranty I could find. The delivery was trouble free. Very pleased! ... show more

    • It was time to upgrade

I have been reluctant to purchase a new TV- especially with the way things are upgraded and changed so frequently. But out other TV was getting tired- it was after all 14 years old. I had really enjoyed the olde TV and it was cutting edge when it was released in 2004. So for the last 14 years, we just made do with it. But being an avid moviegoer now was the time to upgrade- OH BOY am I glad I did. All I can say is WOW! the picture quality on this TV is amazing. The Smart hub is user-friendly and fast! No more waiting- just push the app button and you're there. Hooks ups were easy, and for the most part intuitive. I love how it easy the new ONE Remote is to use. it was a breeze to setup- follow the on-screen directions and it is a piece of cake. I did have to sign up for a Smart Things user account but that was simple too. After setting it up all I wanted to do was watch TV- it was like having the action right in my house- or like having a window into the actual action. One of the complaints about the recent GOT season 8 episode 3 was how dark it was, and with my previous TV I could see that as a valid complaint. Well, I rewatched the episode with this TV and I was blown away. Never thought I would get the change to visit Winterfell but this TV made it feel like I was there. I am a very happy customer and highly recommend this TV- hopefully, it will last us 14 years like our previous TV. ... show more
