  • Update 220 hours, valve adjustment, running well though more pulls to start
Update February 4, 2021 Now around 350 hours and working like new! Still working with this generator at least once a week, often running an 1800 watt saw with it. This is the same saw that would stall the generator before but now the saw runs perfectly with it. I think adjusting the valves and changing the oil frequently made the difference. It usually takes three pulls to start it. It is unfortunate that Rainier has not been able to keep their generators in stock. I would recommend this model and probably other Rainier generators to anyone. They seem to run and run and run... Update May 2, 2020 The valve adjustment was easy if you have a inexpensive set of feeler gauges. I have roughly 220 hours in this generator. I still power my saws, drills, lights, battery chargers and more with this generator. It no longer starts with just one pull, often requiring four or more pulls, but it runs well nonetheless. I would definitely buy this genset again. Update December 17, 2019 Rainier's support responded within one day and has also opened a phone line. They updated the manual to include valve adjustment specifications. Does not appear to be difficult. Will check and adjust the valves. Expect to get full performance again from the generator for powering my saw and, possibly, my 80 amp arc welder. There are no other generators with the added power in this price range as far as I know. Glad I researched and chose Rainier. Going to buy another one. Update December 15, 2019 Glad to report that the generator powers 15 amp tools including saws. It will still not power my small stick welder probably because of rush current exceeding the rating. The low amperage stick welder needs a full 20 amp circuit and this generator is just shy of that amperage. The big challenge now is that Rainier recommends checking and adjusting valves after 100 hours but does not provide the specification for valve clearances. Still glad I chose this generator. It starts about as easily now as it did brand new. It is still super quiet and extremely fuel efficient. With less than 500 watt power draw, I can easily run 10-14 hours on the efficiency setting from one fill-up. Impressive. Update November 6, 2019 I have about 180 hours on this generator running everything from electric chain saws, shop lights, drills, smaller saws, finicky batter chargers, and fans. I am glad I bought it yet surprised and disappointed that it will stall when I attempt to run 120 VAC/15 amp mini welders, a smooth start saw from Evolution Rage, and other tools that are supposed to run on 120VAC/15 amp circuits but overwhelm this generator. When I first received it, the generator would power these devices but no longer. I use synthetic oil and replace it at around 50 hours. The manual states that I should check the valve clearances but does not provide the instructions to do so, other than taking it to a service station. Still a great generator that I would buy again and recommend. If I can solve this heavy load issue, it will be perfect. I own more than 10 generators because I live off-grid. My main generators are from Champion Generators with solid performance over the years combined with outstanding support. After researching for weeks to find a fuel efficient inverter generator that could support a 90 amp welder or several battery chargers that require clean power, LED lights, drills, saws, etc., I finally settled on Rainier Power Equipment's R2200i. Here are the reasons why I chose this inverter generator over the ones from Champion, Costco, Ai-Power, Wen, and many others: 1) 1800 running watts vs most competitors at 1600 watts. While the difference seems small, in practice 200 watts is enough to run my shop lights and 1800 watts is enough to run my 90 amp welder. 2) Fuel gauge. Several generators leave this nice feature out. I use the fuel gauge to assess how much time I have left in the tank. 3) Super quiet at 52 db. You will not believe how quiet this unit is! I often listen to podcasts while working and can hear them even near the generator. Other units are 58 db. 4. Larger tank and run time. 1 gal vs 1.3 gals makes for another 30% work time vs competitors. 5. Eco-mode and 13 hour run time. The eco-mode responds instantly to changing loads, dramatically reducing fuel consumption. Some competitors do not have this critical feature. 6. 120VAC 20 A outlets vs 120VAC 15A outlets. The 20A outlets are different and allow me to use high current power tools, compressors and welders. 7. Price! For the lowest price out of most of the competitors, I have the top performing generator. Thus far I am completely amazed by how quiet the generator is, how it runs a particularly finicky battery charger and the high quality construction. I plan to run this generator for at least a few hundred hours in the first month. I will post an update if anything goes wrong. Update June 5, 2019 I only have about 44 hours on the unit with one recommended oil change at 20 hours to full synthetic. The unit still starts on one to three pulls but no longer will it power my sliding miter saw nor my 120 VAC compressor. Suddenly the 2200 Watt claim, or even 1800 Watt claim is no longer valid. I have to use my Champion dual fuel generator rated at 3500+ running watts for either or both of these key tools. I am disappointed since this generator originally ran both the saw and the generator. I am going to check with the manufacturer to find out what could cause the issue. Update: At first there was no reply from support. A day later, I received a support response asking for nameplate information on the compressor and saw that the R2200i would not power. So the company still supports the generator but slowly. No phone number like Champion. If there is some setting that resolves this issue, then I will get no more than a 3 star rating because the generator has run flawlessly for the many hours I have used it, but has not provided the 2000 watts needed to start the saw and compressor as it specifies it can supply. ... show more

  • Off to a great start, we'll see how well it holds up
I wanted a small portable to use as a backup for my RV, to carry in my Jeep for overnight trails, and for remote site construction at my home. I purchased this generator specifically because it has the approximate size I wanted and it had a fuel level gauge. The level gauge was a huge sticking point to me because I didn't want to have to remove the cap while the generator was running to see how much fuel is left. This was the only one in this size and price range that hit that mark. I also wanted a fuel shutoff, which I thought from the pictures that this one had. It does not, it is an engine shutoff. Looking at the companies website, looks like maybe there was a design change at some point and there are some pictures of either the old or new design that have the fuel shutoff and a kill button. The generator I received only had an engine shutoff switch. Not that big a deal, more of a minor irritant, but it does come with a fuel drain capability so I'm happy. I was impressed with the thoughtfulness of the package and design of this generator. I mean everything just looks to be put together for form and function. I removed the oil fill cover with the screwdriver it came with, filled the oil using the handy fill container and bottle of oil it came with, and filled the fuel tank watching the gauge so I didn't over fill it. I followed the directions exactly, and the generator started on the very first pull. There was some smoking the first minute as the cyclinders burnt out the oil no doubt in them, but it very quickly cleared up with very little indication of smoke in the exhaust. The generator runs nice and quiet with no funny noises that would indicate a poor build or loose components and had a very good power output. If I have a complaint about this generator, it would be the same complaint as all small appliances, in that it does not have an hour meter. All the services are based on hours use, but no meter to track that use. Very silly and would have been cheap to include in such a nice build. All in all, this generator will definitely fit my use. It'll spend part of it's time riding around in the belly of the RV as backup, part of the time in the back of the Jeep ready to power a small ceramic heater in our tent to keep the wife happy, and part of the time riding around in the back of my truck to power jobsite battery charges, radios, drop lights, etc. But even if it was only used once in a while, for the price you can't beat it. I did get the amazon extended warranty for mine, and I fully intend to get several years use out of this generator. I'll try to remember to post an update after the generator has been in use for a while. Cheers! ... show more

  • Quiet, efficient, cranks out power
This thing set in a box for two or three years before I actually needed it and was not sure it would even run. But after oiling and gassing up, and quite a few pulls, it finally fired up and worked great. Very quiet (for a generator) and efficient in eco-mode, which throttles down the engine when there is no load. The whole inverter design is great. It ran for about 12 hours on less than 2 gallons of gas so I could not complain. I was using it for a big fridge and some lights and a fan during and after a hurricane so never really pushed it that hard but it never faltered. Operations involves several steps and you have to make sure get all switches and dials in the right place before it will work. But if you can follow the instructions, you will have no problems ... show more

  • Love them
Bought 2 for our rv life. They work great. One works perfectly the other is a little hard to start sometimes and leaks a little oil. Both are reliable and work great hooked together to have 30 amps.
