  • Overall Decent Pump
Style: Pump In Style MaxFlow
I am a first time Mom and have been lucky to try 2 versions of the Medela pump already, the older stand alone version of the Medela Pump In Style Advanced (PISA) and also the backpack version of the PISA, so this will be my 3rd Medela pump. I pump 3-6 times a week now (I used to pump more often) and had the opportunity to use the new Medela Pump In Style with MaxFlow 2020 version in return for my honest review. I want to be as thorough as I can for those who are looking into a pump as I know its so overwhelming :) The Pump: The pump itself is really appealing at first glance. Very compact compared to the PISA and much lighter. Is has a hard casing, as the PISA had a black bag or backpack that went around it and you could not take out the pump itself. I do not travel much with my pump, I mainly use it at home but I could imagine the new MaxFlow would be so much better for portability. It is quieter than the PISA however the noise never really bothered me as I am home pumping. It advertised that it increases milk volume 11% but I have yet to see a difference in my output, I am pumping about the same output as before. I think those moms that exclusively pump hopefully see that increase. Now the MaxFlow has 4 buttons that are while the PISA has a dial and a button. This makes it looks much sleeker. Cons: The pump, like I said, looks awesome however there is no indicator on what suction level you are on. It has a ‘+’ and ‘-‘ sign but no window to show what number or suction you are on so you are left guessing or remembering ‘oh let me press it 5 times’. I much prefer the PISA where I knew exactly where to place the dial for my maximum output. Unfortunately, with the MaxFlow, I’m still trying to figure that out. I will say that the suction does seem weaker than my stand alone PISA that is 5-6 years old and as I noticed the same thing with my backpack version of the PISA. The suction seems to be getting weaker as the new versions comes out, I would think the suctions would get stronger or at least stay the same. The Flages: The flages I can say are much better. They have this rubber around the rims that makes it much more comfortable for pumping. It comes with both a 23mm and 21mm which is nice to have the option instead of just the common size. I actually use a 19mm with my PISA, an off brand, and found that they do not make this size again for the MaxFlow so I use the 21mm and they seem okay, I think I would do much better with a smaller size so hopefully they will make those eventually. The Tubing: The tubing is much better. There is a plastic piece that connects to the actual pump now which holds much better than the PISA, mine would slip off occasionally. It is thicker and seems more durable. Its easier to pump just one side if you need, all you do is disconnect from the pump and stick it in the ‘Y’ tubing area to secure the suction is closed. Now the only down fall I see with the tubing is it is a little shorter than I would like. I wish it had a few more inches to it to give me more range to do things as I sit and pump. The Bag: I haven’t used the bag personally, but it looks nice and grey color is very neutral. It seems like the pump can fit with plenty of space for bottles or whatever else you need The Connectors: Now this might be the biggest Con to me, and maybe because I’m a first time mom and I like to see everything that’s going on especially when I’m pumping, but they redesigned the whole connector. The membranes are much larger to prevent backflow which I have had no problems with. The biggest problem I see is that the connectors are a solid white color, not clear. I don’t know why they would change this. I mean it looks much sleeker and clean, so possibly that’s the reason but I like to see what exactly is coming out, how much, how fast, if I have a clog I like to see that its coming out and especially towards the end of my pump I like to make sure I pump it all out and now I find myself leaning over trying to see if I see any drops in the bottle. The tunnel where the flanges connect is much shorter which helps in blocking to see what is going on. I find myself pumping for a longer amount of time because of this, I was so used to seeing what is going on and now that I can’t I sit longer in hopes that I’m pumping it all out instead of knowing. So if you are one that likes to see exactly what is happening like me, you might want to take that into consideration. The Powersource: It comes with both a wall connector and a portable battery pack. The portable battery pack takes AA batteries. I really wish it came with a rechargeable battery as I know some other pumps do. So possibly the next version with have that option. Overall, this pump has improved. It is much more portable and compact compared to the PISA. I like that its not connected to a backpack, I hated that, and that it can stand alone. It more comfortable then the other, and really, comfort and function is most important. The biggest drawback that does not fully allow me to love it is that the connector is not clear so I can’t fully see what is going on. I think that is all preference though. If this were my first Breast pump I know I would love it, no question. I think Medela listened to their Mama’s and made changes that greatly improved this pump however I think a few more changes and it would be amazing. ... show more

  • Gotta get one.
Style: Pump In Style MaxFlow
I was given a set just like this and decided to get another to keep in my car. With the bag, it is very easy to pack up and go. A car adapter is very useful for those of you who will be using it on the go a lot. Much better than buying batteries, however, the battery pack works better than I’d hoped and lasts longer than expected. My daughter is 100% breast fed and I would recommend this to any mom expecting to do the same. A little difficult to fed and pump at the same time if you have a squirming baby, but manageable in most other cases. I like this pump more than the hands free pump I have from a different company. You will definitely want to get an extra pack of bottles if you don’t pan on storing or freezing the milk in other containers. They are my go to bottle for most cases. Even the prepackaged nipples are handy. I keep one in my go bag just in case. ... show more

  • So easy!!
Style: Hands-free Breast Pump
This fits well in my bra and is small enough to still be semi-portable with the batter pack charger that it comes with. I have a long commute to work and pump on the way to and from and also while I'm there. The parts are fairly easy to clean on the go too. I use a rubbermaid to put it all in with boiled water and dawn, let it soak, scrub it down with a bottle brush, rinse, and pop some towels down in the rubbermaid and put all the parts back in, lid covering, air dry between uses. It's good enough to use for full time pumping if you feel like you don't want to see your let down. Personally I use my flange/cup pump so I can keep and eye on how I'm doing as far as suction/spray/let down, etc. Trying to take lactation consultant's advice 😇 ... show more

  • The best pump!
Style: Pump In Style MaxFlow
So lightweight and a plus that it has such a stylish bag too! I'm a nurse and went back postpartum to work and this is so great and discrete. It also has enough suction I get about 4oz per breast every 4 hours and can tell it completely empties me! Best breast pump hands down!

  • Good hands free pump option
Style: Hands-free Breast Pump
This is a good option for a pump if you would prefer to not have to change into a pumping bras each use. It is easy to use and overall a good pump. It doesn’t have the same portability of a hand free like the Elvie or Willow, but not quite as clunky and limiting like a traditional pump. I would consider this an option for your “main” pump vs a truly portable pump. Pros: Cups are see through so you can see expression Good suction- I found this to be better output than a portable (like elvie) Easy assembly - few parts that make this easy to assemble and wash Cons: Can’t customize pumping per side Can’t see how long you have been pumping Can’t see what level you’re pumping at Difficult to disassemble- I often have trouble when trying to take apart the pieces to wash ... show more
