  • Price Gouging
Best Buy has this same exact unit for $1449. HIDevolution is selling this for $1599. That's a $150 markup simply from reselling the device. They say they will open up the device and change the factory-applied thermal paste (why would you do this, the factory one is made for longevity and works great as it is), and also claim it will *not* void the ASUS warranty. Guess what, I wrote to ASUS and they said any third-party modifications including changing the thermal compound will void the warranty and is not approved! Another great reason NOT to purchase an overpriced, third-party modified unit is that the thermal seal will be broken- ASUS is using a thermal glue-like compound to cool the VRMs and the GPU memory chips. I don't know if HIDevolution will change these out for thermal pads, but the whole process is completely unnecessary given the already great stock temperatures of the CPU and GPU. Save your money and wait for Best Buy to have these in stock. Don't get ripped off. ... show more

  • Review on the product details, not laptop
Let me sort this out firstly; the laptop has gotten never ending praise and I have high hopes that it will, indeed be a fantastic laptop and one I am going to purchase myself, however I was going through the product details and noticed conflicting information. For example the title specifically says R9 4900HS, however there is intel branding right on the picture. This will cause a lot of confusion among consumers who are not tech savvy. Another piece of conflicting data is in the product details itself. It says “3 GHZ Ryzen 7”, however in the title and it the summary of the G14 it states it’s an R9 4900HS. So which one is it? It also doesn’t specify if there is the LED dot-matrix display on these are not. While it shows it clearly in the picture, it still does not explicitly state yes or no. Edit: They have added Ryzen to the image now. ... show more

  • Great All around laptop/Plus gaming!
Ive had the Laptop for a few months now and so far have no regrets. Pros: - Fantastic screen. Nice mat screen, don't need 4K at this size so 1080 is great. I have hooked it up to external 4K monitors and it look fantastic. Just know that pushing most games at 4K is still a "Heavy" task for most single video cards. - keyboard action is really nice. - Great as a mobile workstation for any photographers due to the color gamut and the matte screen. Cons: - Due to the small form factor, the laptop does heat up quickly under heavy workloads. I have yet to have the it die/shutdown on me during heavy workloads so the fans do seem to manage the internal temps well enough. But this baby will get hot in your lap/hands. - Track-pad is a bit small, but accurate using windows drivers. - Price! Because I "pre-ordered" this laptop I ended up paying more then the base model is worth. HiDevolution actually raised the price after the BestBuy base models were sold out. For shame. I will say in there defense, their customer service was great. - Asus's customer service is a nightmare. You're better off using the reddit thread for this specific laptop. - Slight "pop" noise when reaching it's thermal throttling point. Can't tell if this is a hard drive, audio or fan. See the reddit thread. ... show more

  • What a tiny BEAST!
First and foremost, I would like to give credit to HIDevoluton. I see a lot of reviewers 1-starring because of price gouge and unnecessary service. I disagree with that and here's why. They are basically inspecting the laptop from any abnormalities or damage when they open it up, and I have seen quite a few people receive lemons from this particular laptop and make several returns(reddit). I have had one tiny issue in a month of owning this laptop, and my god this thing is amazing and do not mind paying a couple more bills to get a pristine machine. pros: *AMD Ryzen 9 is a game changer, for the price, this thing zippity doodas anything you throw at it, and really is the number one pro of this machine. Intel might be in trouble. *Geforce 2060mq runs the games I throw at it on ultra-high 80+ fps no problem. FO76, COD,RDR2 *The battery life is a godsend, I am pushing 9+ hours light browsing, office work and movies at full charge, and there is an option to limit max charging to 60% or 80% to reduce damage to battery if you leave it plugged in to game most of the time(which I do), which will increase battery's life. *The 120hz FHD screen is actually quite bright and looks crisp and clear for gaming and movies. I was actually quite impressed with the quality as it rivaled my 2018 razer blade stealth's qhd screen. And the 120hz is perfect for gaming. *Keyboard feels good and responsive, no smushy keys and the right amount of travel IMO. The only issue with keyboard would be the backlight which I will get to. *Touchpad is on point, feels more precise/smooth to me then my razer blade and zephyrus gx501. I have heard some people having issues with 3 and 4 finger clicks, although I personally never use them. *Portability... doesn't get much better then this with what they have crammed into this beautiful 14' chassis. Cons- *Keyboard backlight- is the number one issue with these machines, and per AMD rep, it was intended to limit backlight for them to achieve efficient cooling. On my particular unit, a couple keys seem a bit dimmer, (T and Y) which appear to be with the majority of other machines I've seen. This could change in later models. Honestly if you are in a well-lit room, you ideally just want to turn it off because it almost makes it more difficult to see the keys with the silver keyboard. In a dark room they are good enough to do what they are intended and look fine. *Speaker pop? The only issue I have had that I thought maybe was a defect was a pop sound which seems to come from left speaker. From my research many people have this issue and It only happens when I am playing a game maybe once every 6-8 hrs. I normally play with a nice pair of headphones, so this is an non-issue for me, but could see this really get the OCD going in some people. And last but not least the cooling. I can not say this is a pro or con, for my machine runs really cool(other users say it runs hot), which might be because of the paste HIDevolution used, and the cooling pad. Some people recommend disabling boost to reduce temp even further; however, I disagree with this because the processor is meant to get a bit hot and why would you strangle the one thing that makes this machine rise above all others? Just do not game on your lap and get a nice cooling pad! Overall, very happy with g14 ROG and HIDevolution, I will be a customer again in the future...if we make it that far. ... show more

  • Beware the chipset driver
Love this machine. It is fast, it performs amazingly, and the keyboard feels great. The ONLY issue is the initial chipset driver issue. I looked on the threads and it appears to be a common issue. Easy enough to fix by downloading the updated graphic card chipset listed in many of the forums. It scares you because the screen will just be black, but the computer is obviously running. Once the driver is updated, runs like a well oiled machine (don't put oil on/in this computer). ... show more
