Top Amazon Reviews

  • Mac Mini M1 Users Beware
Style: 49" 1440P 120hz 32:9 SUW49DA
I'm giving this review 2 stars because if I was going to buy another monitor, it would not be this one. You get what you pay for, but sometimes, the cost of what you pay for will end up being more expensive in the long run and it's better to spend the extra money for better quality and fewer headaches. After all, it all depends on what your time is worth. So let's begin. First monitor was purchased with expedited shipping, but ended up being sent to a different person on the other side of the country. It could have been Amazon/Third Party Shipping issues. So really, no complaint there. It's just something I want you to be aware off. A new monitor was sent out to me, but there was now a 3-4 week delay. I received that monitor, but it appeared used and the monitor's display was cracked completely along it's vertical axis (similar to what other people have already mentioned in the reviews here). I purchased another one and waited until I received that one (to avoid the potential long wait), and returned the cracked one via UPS (thank goodness for no hassle returns with Amazon). This new one was 'new' and in good condition. Beware #1 I attached an arm to it, but the threads for the screws are weak and I stripped the two bottom holes while hand tightening. Luckily I could rethreaded the screw linings and used different custom screws to get the mount on. So be very careful when attaching the mounting bracket for an arm. Good Point #1 There were no dead pixels. I did a calorimeter check and adjusted the colours. The colour range and accuracy (with out going into details) is good. Not exceptional, but for the price of this monitor, it's good enough. Good Point #2 I'm using it mostly for productivity - game/mobile programing, video editing, and some personal photo work. It's my first Ultrawide and I like the real estate for video work. For programming and photo editing, I think the sweet spot is about 2/3 the size of this monster. But that is personal preference. For video editing it awesome. Bad Point #2 When the Monitor goes into Standby Mode the remote doesn't work. I don't know if this is normal or it is a bug, but the remote is basically useless. The remote's On/Off button doesn't work as well once it goes into Standby and the other buttons only work after I use the monitors physical (button) buttons to get into the menu. I can then use the Remote to navigate the menus (which by-the-way, are not well laid out). This is another issue for me as I like to keep the minot low on the desk, but then I cannot access the button underneath (including to adjust the brightness or darkness since, as expected, the Mac Keyboard cannot adjust that on this monitor). Bad Point #3 When the Monitor goes into Standby, you cannot turn the monitor on/off - this is true with the remote (as stated above) AND the physical buttons under the monitor. It's almost as if it is in Deep Standby/Power mode like some other monitors and there is no Wake-Up mode that can be triggered (but if that is really what is happening, there is no way to turn such a feature off, that I am aware of). Bad Point #4 When the Mac mini goes into sleep mode, the monitor will go into Standby. Once it is in Standby, you cannot turn the monitor on or off unless you unplug it. (FYI - switching between connections like a work-around for some other monitors doesn't work either). The only way to get the monitor to work again, is by physically disconnecting it from a power source and plugging it back in again. Unfortunately for me, I need to remove one of the drawers in my desk because the plug in attached to a powerbar inside the desk. I avoid this by always keeping the monitor on and using a screensaver (costly for electricity) or having to turn the computer off each time I am away from the desk (i.e., for a lunch break). I may end up just cutting the power card and splicing in my own dead switch into the cable near the back on the monitor, since the monitors On/Off switch doesn't work when it goes into Standby Mode. Note - I am using the Mac mini M1 with Big Sur. The full resolution is supported, but if you want to reduce it, there is no 1/2 reduction point. I also couldn't get this to work with SwitchResX or EasyRes. It's rare that someone may want to do this, but just in case you're wondering... I haven't been successful in doing this. Good Point #3 If you are using a PC with an NVidia GTX GPU, it will perform very well. So I think this may be a good monitor for gaming. I used an RTX2080 with MSFS2020 and it performs well. I think this monitor will really shine in that area, (so I would give it 4 stars as you still need to do some colour correction and tweaks with the settings - but you can find solutions on the internet for that). But note, I did NOT test Sleep Mode with Windows, so Bad Points #3, #4 could still apply. I'm giving this 2 Stars specifically when working with a MAC. Quality control issues, an inability to use the remote, and Standby non-functioning problems make me want to tell you to spend a little more to get a better product. But again, that may be you personal preference. Once I make a power by-pass switch, I may be able to live with it. But for now I'm not too happy with this purchase and worried how it will preform in the long run (I've had it for 5 weeks as of this review). Best of luck in what ever you decide... Update - Feb. 26 2021 One side of the monitor has stopped working regardless of what port or connector I use. Just a scramble of white noise (like you get for an off-the-air TV station). Didn't last a year. But I will keep my rating at 2 stars and recommend that you get extra 'no hassle insurance' if you're going to purchase this monitor. ... show more

  • Great monitor, but arrived missing all sorts of stuff
Style: 49" 1440P 120hz 32:9 SUW49DA
The Monitor Display Panel: 5 stars The display is bright, beautiful, and worked right away with my system. A couple setting tweaks were needed in Ubuntu 20 to get the 5120x1440 resolution set, and the 120hz refresh rate set. Not a problem, I expected to have to do that. I have zero complaints with the picture/image. The Monitor Stand: ? stars Hard to say if the monitor stand is sturdy, or how the tilt works on it, as I only got the parts for the stand, but did NOT get the screws for the stand. The pieces are sitting in a drawer, in case I ever have to return the display. Missing parts didn't stop here either.... The Remote Control: ? stars ...the remote control that is mentioned in the product description was also not in the box. Which is a huge shame as the reviews seem to indicate that the remote is the best way to switch inputs. The VESA mounting: 1 star Seriously, whoever designed the VESA mounting interface for this should be fired. The top two screw holes sit out approximately 10mm further than the bottom holes. Which isn't necessarily a problem, VESA mounting spacers are a thing, and I luckily had dozens of them from all the monitor arms and TV mounts I have in the house. However, the hole in the plastic shell to access the VESA mounting area is just barely larger in diameter than the 4 75mmX75mm mounting holes. What this means is, any 75x75 VESA mounting plate you have likely also has 100x100mm mounting holes as well to accomodate different display VESA patterns. But 100x100 is NOT going to fit inside this display's plastic shell. The end result is that you now need 10mm spacers for the top two screws, and 20mm spacers for the bottom screws. And then you also need to have the correct thread pitch and diameter screws that are LONG ENOUGH to get through all those spacers and still get good enough bite in the VESA threads on the monitor. It looks janky, and while I know it will hold, it pisses me off that I had to empty out containers full of spare screws looking for some that would actually be able to mount this to my primary display arm. And since I didn't get the screws for the display stand that comes with the monitor, I had no choice but to jank together something out of what I had, otherwise, it would have stayed in the box till I had time to skip out of work and go to the hardware store to find suitable fasteners. Accessories: 2 stars Again, in the box I received the display panel, the 3 aluminum stand parts, and that was it. I did NOT receive: Power Cable Screws to assemble and attach the stand The remote to operate the monitor (input select) that is listed The DisplayPort 1.4 Cable that was listed as being included Overall: Look, I'm not going to lie to you. It pisses me right off that it was missing all that stuff in the box. For $1000+ (after taxes), this thing should have installed itself, and produced the missing parts out of thing air for me. The VESA mount, if you intend to put it on an articulating VESA arm, just plan to go to your local big-box hardware shop the day you get it, because you're going to need all sorts of spacers and screws to make this work, especially if your arm's mounting plate is dual 75mm/100mm mounting holes. With all that said, this monitor is enormous, bright, smooth as silk at 120hz, and has already allowed me to get more work done, and uninstall half a dozen smaller 1080p displays that were cluttering up my desk. I've done some light gaming (Valheim, Doom 2016) and it's fantastic for that. I use it for work and can have a remote session to my work laptop, a full sized browser window, Discord, Google Chat, Steam Friends, a few terminal windows, some file folders open....it's just a productivity monster. I especially love having Unity Game Editor open, with tons of working space within the editor, and still be able to have a browser window and DIscord open on the sides to allow me to look up answers to questions I have, and discuss the development with my buddies in the chat, and not have to flip around between windows and taskbar tabs to do so. It's a fantastic display, but prepare for some irritation/flaws regarding the accessories and items they say should be in the box. You might not get them. I unfortunately couldn't drop everything and send it back to get a replacement, so I'll suck it up and keep it. it still gets the job done. ... show more
