  • Works great, wide field of views
Style: Garmin Dash Cam Tandem, Pattern Name: Cam
I installed three of these for customers. They work great, easy to setup and the park mode cable powered by the OBDII connector makes it a snap. That being said, I only wish you could pair the device with more than one phone at a time. You have to unpair and pair each phone you want to connect to a camera. ... show more

  • Overall I am satisfied...could be a few tweaks to make it perfect.
Style: Garmin Dash Cam Tandem, Pattern Name: Cam
A few negatives: product comes with two of sticky magnetic mounts but the one that was inserted into the plastic part of the mount had the clear protective cover missing and I immediately had to use the spare. Sometimes the camera does not seem to connect and start recording automatically. It will flash green instead of solid red for recording. You have to disconnect the power cable and reconnect for it to begin recording as normal. Idk the cause of this. Happens to me periodically, just try to check it often. I use the parking mode cable but at times my vehicle sits for about 4 to 5 days. This causes all power to the camera to shut off bc the battery voltage gets below a certain level. It would be nice if it would still be able to register an impact and record or else you would be OUT OF LUCK if something happened. Pros: camera seems pretty good quality. I was able to throw in a 256GB microsd without doing any crazy formatting like the manual says. The parking mode cable box can be opened and there are a few black plastic jumpers inside where you can adjust the voltage shutoff for the camera so it doesnt drain your battery. I changed mine to 12V instead of 12.3V. ... show more

  • Mostly good but for the Android app.
Style: Garmin Dash Cam Tandem, Pattern Name: Cam
The media could not be loaded. I recently bought the Garmin Tandem Dash Cam. With it I purchased a 512 GB memory card. The order was delivered in a timely manner that was satisfactory to me. My first impression was on how tiny this unit is. All the better for windshield placement. I put it just under the rear view mirror. The magnetic mount was one of my buying decisions, having previous experience with the rubber suction type mounts. This mag mount later proved to be very useful and easy to take your dash cam inside. For initially setting up, and to learn how to use this device, I brought it inside my house and plugged it into a wall wart USB power supply. Then I did the Bluetooth pairing, from there looked through the app. The connection worked fine with my Nokia 7.2 Android smartphone. I found the app lacking in some areas, and was very slow to process and upload files to your phone. The quick and dirty way to access files is to plug the cam into your computers USB port. It will show up as a drive on File Explorer in Windows. The video files are one minute each. There are two files per each minute of recording, one for the front cam, the other for the cabin cam, the front cam file is twice the size as the rear. Using Windows file explorer it is quick to download these videos, using the time stamp to find what you want, or manually look through them. The other much slower way is to use the app. This is when it's easier to bring in inside the house, sit down and take a few minutes when your out of the vehicle. But with the app, you can included the other camera in a PIP (picture in picture) format. This will take some time of a few minutes. The Dash cam uses your phones Wi-Fi to do the file transferring. The hand off is slow and quirky. I also noted files longer then 5 minutes will not upload to your phone ending up disconnected. When you save a video, it will be about 3 minutes long, saving the previous, current, and next files. IF you keep saving, that saved file can be longer. But file size can become to large, and this app can't deal with large files. There is an option to "trim" the video files to a shorter length. So far I find 5 minutes is the max. I could however, download those bigger files by connecting directly to the computer. IF you want parking mode, you need to buy the wire cable kit for that. For now I cannot comment. I power my Tandem Cam with a cigarette lighter style Power Supply right below the rear view mirror on top of the dash, so this works Ok for now. I drive a 2021 Ram 2500 pickup truck. I have to unplug to turn off the cam as the PS is constant. As for the voice recognition, it's spot on and works well. The commands are few, but nice to say; "OK Garmin, save video", and it does. There is also an overlay of GPS position, speed and time stamped at the bottom of the video. It seems very accurate. The device gets hot, but this is addressed in the manual as OK. It does come supplied with a 16 GB memory card. It also comes with two power cords, one is long, one is short, with a twin USB FM power supply for the cigarette lighter port or a USB port alone can be used, must be a non media type, power only. A parking mode power supply cord is extra. The parking mode will show up in the settings only when this special power supply cord is used, the cost of that is $35. The cons are; - The app. It is very slow to process and upload files to your phone, be patient. -The instructions are very scant and not well centralized. The supplied pamphlet is very lacking, even the colors are wrong(for various cam modes). I find answers in different places too, that is just dumb and can be corrected. -the PIP position for exported videos needs to be a hard set option, not every time. -For the price ($299), the parking mode cable should be included. Not all vehicles have switching power USB ports, mine doesn't, requiring to pull the power cord out, everytime, to turn off. The resolution is OK. You can read license plates if close enough. The cabin camera does very well when it's dark with it's infrared night time mode. Audio recording works as well. Take some time to really learn how it works. A better manual would help here with some explanation, like on how your phones Wi-Fi gets hijacked to do file transfers, and not very well at that. I shouldn't have to learn this by experience. This will not connect to your home router. I subtracted two stars mostly for the irritating mediocre app. I am being generous. For the money I paid for all of this, I expect something better for connectivity, easier than taking the dashcam into my home and plug it into a computer to get results. It irritates me that I have to sit in my truck and look at my phone, waiting and waiting, until I give up. I had to reformat the SD card to enable the app to connect recently. Not impressed. --------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: March 27, 2022 I purchased and installed the battery hard wire kit. I had to buy some Add-A-Fuse circuit extenders, one full time power, the other ACC power. This turns off the unit when the vehicle is turned off. Or you can with this kit installed, there is now in the settings available a low power "Parking Mode" with various settings, motion detection and "impact", and various time lengths up to always on. There is a small box on the wire harness, once unscrewed you can see and set a voltage cutoff with hard switches where it shuts off at a designated voltage. Default was 12 volts, but I drive a Cummins diesel truck, I set that low volt cut off at a higher volts. This is not in the instructions. I'm just happy it turns off by itself without my intervention. The cord was just long enough by a couple of inches. The placement of the low voltage cutoff switch box was dumb, somewhere in the middle, it should be at the far end where you connect to the fuse box area. Not well thought out. But it works, and I was able to tuck it to where it is not visible. ... show more

  • Manual stinks
Style: Garmin Dash Cam Tandem, Pattern Name: Cam
The picture quality and video is superb. Size of the camera is surprising small for what I expected. Unit does generate a bit of heat and I believe may be do the size of the fan/heat sink in the camera really not providing enough draw to remove the heat being built up. Double sided tape to use for the magnet to hold the camera in place is useless. Already has pulled loose 3 times while attempting to remove the camera. FL heat must be to much for it...trying another double sided tape before I attempt to hot glue in place or some other method to keep magnet in place. Not even sure a universal suction cup holder sold by Garmin would hold up. All in all good so far except for a few small glitches/issues. Will use another week or so before buying another unit for the other vehicle to see if I can work the bugs out. ... show more
