I bought these headphones when I started college back in 2012. They spent everyday being dragged around campus in my backpack. I took up music production in my spare time and they were able to keep up with my needs for a pretty a long time (I still check my mixes on them even though I have a monitoring setup that costs about 20 times what these do now). When I got an office job, they continued being folded up everyday for occasional office use when I want to really focus and dive deep into a spreadsheet. To get something that sounds better, not different, I think you'd need to spend twice as much. After all this time, I've replaced the earpads once, ditched the headpad, and now I have the right channel dropping intermittently. I've looked at the price of a new cable (which may or may not be the solution to my problem) and a set of pads if I'm going to be in there anyways.... and that's almost the price of a new set of 'phones. So I'm dinging a star for repair cost. On the one hand, in a professional environment you'd probably just keep a few spare sets around, but on the other, the user repairability was a selling point for me way back in 2012. I'm not keen to spend all that money on parts and find out I still have a problem, but then I'm not excited to start out with a brand new pair either. From what I remember, these headphones age really well, as in they sound better the longer you use them. My set is in a good mood today and I'm catching things on them that my Audeze LCD-Xs aren't pointing out. So yeah, maybe 9-10 years is the upper limit for a well-abused set of these. I guess that's not bad at all by consumer standards, but I was hoping the ability to do repairs would feasibly extend that farther. For some of Sennheiser's other pro-level gear, I don't think that's at all unwarranted. But hey, these gave me 9 years of good to great sound, got me started in music production, stood up to a lot of abuse from a young man who didn't know how to take care of a pair of headphones, still stand up as a point of comparison to much more expensive sets, and cost less than the cables in my main headphones these days. I very well might just buy another set so I can continue to have this reference point. Oh also, IDK why on earth you would give a star rating to bass on headphones without mentioning other parts of the sound. I don't want to dive too deep, but I very much doubt most people would put these on and think they sound bad. They are pretty flat or even a bit dull (which is great for a pro environment because it is easier on your ears), so they might not sound exciting at first, but it's something you get used to in a few months. Soon, every other pair of headphones is going to sound off to you. ... show more
