  • Just a friendly warning about used / Amazon Warehouse / renewed units...
Size: 61-Key style: S-Series Pattern Name: Keyboard
First, let me say that this keyboard is totally amazing - and well worth the $780 price tag new if you're serious about music production and are in the Native Instruments ecosystem. Kontakt is an wonderful piece of software and integrates tightly with this keyboard. However... I decided to purchase one of the Amazon Warehouse units at $200 less. I already owned the software and didn't feel as though I needed a new unit. I saved a couple hundred bucks, the keyboard came well packaged, I plugged it in and everything lit up, and launching Komplete (standalone or in FL Studio / Ableton Live) everything seemed great. The keyboard has a very nice, semi-weighted feel. All good, right? Wrong. This was totally My Bad - I didn't check each and every key, button, and knob on the unit. If you buy used - from anyone - this is a must. I was busy with other projects and the keyboard seemed as though it was in great condition. A couple weeks after the 30-day return period had ended I pulled the keyboard out, fired up Ableton, plugged everything in, and marveled at how gorgeous the thing is. Then, I started to work on a piece and realized that a stretch of eight keys were dead - Ab0 to Eb0 simply didn't work. Nada. However, I couldn't return it because it was beyond the send-back date. I don't really have anyone to blame - I should have carefully checked the unit over. Nothing appeared damaged overtly and it came described in "Very Good" condition, which means a few scuffs or scratches. It was not supposed to be defective, which mine obviously was. So, let this be a gentle reminder and caveat emptor if you are thinking about purchasing used. One other observation: if you buy a used unit, the accompanying software will almost certainly have been registered by the original owner, which means that the $200+ worth of software will belong to someone else. You need to factor this in when you're trying to figure out if you want to buy new or save a bit by purchasing used / refurbished. Just another friendly warning and something to consider. Still, this is a gorgeous keyboard and, like I said at the outset, totally worth the investment. Just be careful. Good luck and enjoy! ... show more

  • Unable to Register the hardware because serial is locked, RETURNED AS UNUSABLE
Size: 49-Key style: S-Series Pattern Name: Keyboard
ZERO STARS. I would love to review this product, but trying to register the hardware to allow me to actually use it fails because the serial number has been locked by customer support. No response from the company yet. So basically I have bought an expensive paperweight at this point. This is why I try to avoid any form of authentication services. Hopefully all will be made good at some point. UPDATE: Waited a week and never heard back from Native Instruments. It has now been returned for a full refund. ... show more

  • Don't have the latest version of Ableton? Look Elsewhere
Size: 49-Key style: A-Series Pattern Name: Keyboard
I purchased this based off my extremely positive experience with my Komplete Kontrol s88, as I am not only able to integrate into the Komplete software well, but also use the midi encoders and buttons to use within ableton. This is completely different with the Komplete Kontrol A-series. First off, if you do not have ableton 10 - DO NOT BUY THIS. There are no available control surfaces provided by Native Instruments for previous versions of Ableton ( I have Ableton 9, don't see the point in paying $300 to upgrade when I purchased it two years ago...). Surely then, you can just create your own control surface right? No - The transport and perform buttons don't actually send midi CC values, so suddenly you can only use the 8 encoders to control settings. This also means that I have 12 buttons that are literally useless - I can't trigger anything in Ableton with the play button, record, or stop. Unlike my Komplete Kontrol s88 - which works perfectly. This whole process has been super frustrating, and there has been a severe lack of communication on Native Instrument's side on their forums and elsewhere. For the past 6 months they have been saying they will add the control editor in a software update "soon." Well it's been 6 months, and they've also released the m32 controller since then. Good luck getting any more support than that. ... show more

  • Compatibility with Maschine MK3 is off the charts
Size: 25-Key style: A-Series Pattern Name: Keyboard
I've looked a lot online for reviews about the Komplete A25, and because it's an entry/mobile level for NI keyboards many reviewers were talking about the basic stuff like the click sound of its buttons and the build quality. What really surprised me is how integrated this midi keyboard is with Maschine MK3 and Maschine software. I expected and seen a lot of reviews about the SW compatibility, but owning this device with the MK3 is a totally different level of integration! I'm able to control the MK3 screens for browsing, plugin selection, and manipulating sounds all from the keyboard. Clicking record or play on one will light the same feature on the other and so on. So, in short, if you have a Maschine MK3 or similar, buying Native Instruments keyboard will make all the difference in terms of compatibility and ability to control multi-devices from any hardware. Very glad I bought this one! ... show more

  • Solid construction but key travel is too long.
Size: 49-Key style: A-Series Pattern Name: Keyboard
Review for A49. Pros: -Sturdy construction -Mod/pitch wheels feel great. Good resistance and grippy feel. Really like them a lot. -plug and play with mac and logic for basic midi controller. Didn't try to map the knobs or anything because of a con listed below. -No drivers needed -Usb powered Cons: -Key travel is too much for me. Deal breaker. I got this to supplement my studio logic sl88 grand controller for fast synth leads and drums and the long key travel makes it slower then my fully weighted 88 key controller. - No power switch. Have to unplug USB cable to turn off. Some might like this but I hate it. - Kinda tall for what it is. I would be more satisfied if it were an inch shorter. Overall: I returned it. Would have kept it if the key travel was shorter. Everything else was great for a $200 49 key controller. ... show more
